Is this weird?

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

I went through the drive through at McD's the other day and I noticed that they had dramatically pruned their trees. I have never seen an oak tree pruned like this.
Is it unusual? Or is this just a big topiary?

Very interesting, I guess it helps to keep it within bounds.

The landscaper must have it confused with a _____holly, the name of which escapes me right now. They are very, very common and often shaped. I have 3 and I prefer to let them grow natural. Oh, what is that name?

Thank you, Josephine. For some reason I have always had a mental block with the name. I happen to have a lot of mental blocks but this one is consistent. hahah

Join the crowd my dear, I am lucky that I can look it up pretty quickly on the search engine.

I saw a live oak trimmed like that just this morning in someone's front yard. Very strange!

I've seen it done before in someones yard!

I still believe it is the yard crews. They don't know a live oak from a Yaupon Holly.

LOL Christi...

I think it's great! If I ever went to Mc Ds I would appreciate not having my car scratched by one of those typically wild limbs of the Live Oak. I'm with Josephine how it is kept within its bounds. It makes a nice tight home for the little birdies too. They love Live Oaks and Youpon Holly-like trees and shrubs.

:-)
