HAVE: Mexican Flame Vine (senecio confusus) rooted cuttings

Edinburg, TX

I have seven rooted cuttings of Mexican Flame Vine (Senecio confusus). These are small rooted tip cuttings approximately 3 to 4 inches tall. They are rooted in small blocks of wet floral foam. Do not try to remove the cutting from the block of wet floral foam - plant directly into the ground or a pot of soil as is.

I'd prefer to send all seven as one trade but will do separate trades for any of the following rooted plants:

Water Hyssop (bacopa monnieri)
Flame Acanthus (anisacanthus wrightii)
Stonecrop (sedum texanum)
Vasey Adelia (adelia vaseyi)
Noseburn (tragia glanduligera or tragia ramosa)
Barbados Cherry (malpighia glabra)
Scarlet Spiderling (boerhaavia coccinea)
Corky Stem Passion vine (passiflora suberosa)
Frogfruit (phyla incisa)

ps...am also looking for good nectar or larval host seeds in bulk :o)

Hey Cat - I'm enthralled with the whole block of wet floral foam - where'd you get that idea from - do you have a link?

Chantell...

I use wet floral foam to keep cuttings fresh for the caterpillars I raise. Since I raise butterflies and moths I needed something that wouldn't harm the caterpillars. The wet floral foam was easy to use and inexpensive enough to toss out when it got too dirty.

Found out by chance when I was cleaning out the caterpillar cages that some cuttings I'd put in for them to feed from - had started to root :o)

So decided to try it on Mexican Flame Vine and some hibiscuses...and voila! It worked!!!

Absolutely amazing!! Has me wondering what would happen if you dropped seeds in small holes in those? Hmmm...I can't wait for spring...plenty of seeds for Buttflies and Hummers...gotta start reading up!!

Edinburg, TX

I still have several rooted cuttings of Mexican Flame Vine...any takers for what I listed above as my wants?

This is what the vine looks like after about a year in south Texas :o)

very pretty and good to know how it grows so well in texas--don't have anything to trade but am interested in your butterflies (not for trade!! ha) i didn't know people "raised" butterflies--how much fun that must be! will you share your experiences some time in an article for dave's gardeners?

TPP,

Your list is a tough one. Although I have a gazillion plants here, many of them sedum and succulents, I don't have any of the ones on your wish list.

What is your growing zone? Maybe I could tempt you with something else or you might expand your wish list?

Plano....you can hop over to the Hummingbird and Butterfly forum on Dave's. We have lots of great folks there who raise butterflies and moths that enjoy sharing photos, their knowledge and experience :o)

I have a sandwich bag that is a little less that half full of Tropical Milkweed seed (A. curassavica) and a lot of other things that I have left over from the butterfly seed swap. I can list them if you are intrested. I also have a few seeds from some other milkweeds that I don't see traded much.
