Nasturtiams in the veggie garden

Do they prevent critters?

I have had a problem all year with 3 deer in the garden, nothing seems to keep them out.

What about red pepper? on the pea plants? I don't want to loose my peas again this year, and thought about sprinkling them with cyanne pepper? think it will work?

Maybe we should just shoot the deer LOL

My husband said he'd go to the seed store and buy a big bag of pea seed to plant out back to deter them? will that work? LOL

they seem to like green peas, and my zipper peas, I thought about planting a large plot of purple hull peas if they want to eat it , it wouldn't be as bad as them coming up to my front garden.

Im not goin gto put a fence up around my garden, so that's out of the question. but i'm looking for other cheaper ways to clear them away from my peas this year.

I know an older man that puts a radio out at night, and plays it all night, puts a bucket over it incase it rains, but DH won't go that far LOL

The radio sounds like a good possibilty....I've done that for raccoons.
Deer.........dogs are probably best ........fences too.

Cayenne red pepper can be helpful for rabbits I would say

Nastursiums get very pretty later in the season. I don't think they will keep all the pests away though they might help. French narigolds are supposedly helpful. An extremely healthy soil is the very best protection....course that doesn't include animals.

If the deer are hungry they will come.

The radio seemed to deter the raccoons, but not the squirrels.

There are deer in the woods[s] not so far from me...also squirrel. Perhaps they are well corn fed...plus my neighbor's dog...I wouldn't want to deal with her either! Anyway the deer haven't bothered anything.

We did see the funniest thing once just down the road a piece. We were getting home from church around noon once and here came this tropy buck sauntering across the road from one corn field to the other. What was so hilarius was that is was fall and the corn was dry and he had streamers of corn hanging in his rack...like highschool football parade streamers. I wish I had had a picture of that one.

A little blood meal sprinkled around after each rain works well for deer and rabbits. Could not grow sweet potatoes with out it. Does not help with groundhogs and raccoons tho.

Good idea!

I didn't know that farmerdill. it would be good for the plants inthe garden too wouldn't it?

I know I can get that at walmart during the growing season, could one buy it in larger amounts somewhere else?

Augusta, GA(Zone 8a)

I get it in 15 lb bags at the local garden center.
