Mansfield, TX(Zone 8a)

I just received an email with these pictures of a parrot flower. I am assuming it is real. Has anyone else ever seen these? If this is for real, I NEED one!!

I guess I won't either, but it sure is interesting :-)

Sooner or later someone is going to get pollen from one of those and start crossing it with New Guinea Impatiens, and then there'll be all kinds of parrot colors out on the market.

I'd do the work myself if I could get the pollen!

Until then, we can all only dream of them!

(the parrot flower is a species of Impatiens)

Wow! Thanks for the link to the Exotic Rain Forest website! I saw it about a year ago and had totally forgotten about it ... I've just spent the past hour listening to those sounds and looking through that beautiful rain forest garden!

Here's another Impatiens that is also called the Parrot Flower: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/38288/ Not as rare as that one above but lovely, just the same!

Lin,

Thanks for that link - that is so pretty, and also possible!

You're welcome. I've thought about trying that one too ... would have to haul it in during a cold snap - along with tons of other things!

Very interesting.

Very neat plant Gail! But at 8,000???? Think it'll be a while before any of us has that one to share!!!
And also- just curious- In this case what does OT stand for on this website? I've seen it elsewhere but what I've usually seen it stand for doesn't make sense. I'm really not stupid?

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

If I am not wrong I think it is off topic

(Zone 1)

Yep .. OT is Off Topic! I get off the topic of discussion all the time on the forums!
