I posted 3 photos of this unknown Philodenron over on the plant I.D. forum. The link above should take you to that post.
Is it possibly Philo. erubescens "Imperial Red"? It was on the "almost dead" rack at HD, labeled "Philodendron Hybrid".
I'd very much appreciated it if someone can I.D.
Thanks!
Deb

Unknown Philodendron hybrid
Deb,
This plant looks a lot like any of a number of the unnamed McColley hybrids produced in the 1970s and released to the market as "Philodendron hybrids". Some are still being grown as there is no patent or royalty limitation on their production and sales. Since I worked at McColley's nursery for a while, I saw the large volume of similar plants that were grown and released to the market.
Unfortunately, determining parentage on these is, for all practical purposes, impossible!

LariAnn: Thanks. If it's one of them, then it's not one I could leave outside once it starts to get chilly, correct? So I guess it'd be part shade, and moist but not wet soil ? If I can't name it, that's ok - just want to be sure I bring it back to health instead of hastening it's demise! :)
Deb,
All your observations are correct. Protect from chilly air, part shade, moist but not wet.
Hello DebinSC! It is a nice looking plant, but I think it is so funny. You see, I just happen to purchase his brother, last Saturday at HD. I was going to post the same question, when I got around to it. The id tag just said Philodendron, and for $8, I thought it was a bargain. It was really potbound, so I transferred it to a larger pot and gave it some water. But, I did not know what else to do with it. So, thank you for the info.
Jsx: LOL - you're welcome! Yup, it's that time at HD! ;)
I'm going to repot this one I got soon as I get a chance. It was so dry, it was hard to believe they had ever watered it...even once. Amazing it looks as good as it does.
Deb
Nice to know Home Depot is at least consistant! Seems all HD's water the same no matter where they are!
