I have grown this plant in large pots for a couple of years, because the hummingbirds love it. The first year I overwintered them on a heated sun porch, but it took a long time in the spring for them to come out of dormancy and bloom again and they took up quite a bit of room. Wal-Mart sells them every year now for about 5.00 each so I just buy two as soon as them put the out. They get alot larger in the ground, but they will not survive the winter in my zone so I just do pots. They get berries, mine have always just shrivled up. I have looked for seeds inside the berries but have not been able to find any so they must be very small. Have not tried to plant any of the berries to see if they will grown.

After the berries dry up, crack them open and very very tiny seeds will come out. I have quite a few seeds just harvested the past month but haven't try to sow them as yet as I have several large bushes. They grow and bloom year round here.

There's some large ones across the street from me and I usually find small plants coming up here and there in my yard. Lots of berries on the large ones and the birds must scatter the seeds.

You can get volunteer seedlings around the plant if you don't mulch heavily.
