Boxer parent has strange dog.

Ginger has a habit of licking the air. We cant see or smell anything, but she will lick the air for an hour. Our Chihuahua doesn't do it. Haven't seen other dogs do it. Has anyone seen this behavior?
Can anyone tell me why she does this?
