Wow, that first one is awesome.

I think you should call the first one Mexican Chocolate. It has cinnamon and hot peppers in it.

(Zone 11)

Thats a very nice cross Kyle. I think even "brown haters" would like that one. :~)

You know I love chcolates, so Iam totally hooked. Forgive my typing, it is 5 in the morning!

LOL, I kinda liked dark star, but have to see if the name is already taken.9528 named varieties exist for trop. hibiscus.

Hard to find names unless I use peoples names.

Absolutely stunning Kyle;,,,

The second picture of the back side got my attention as well. If that color holds in the summer months I would propagate it... Heck,,, I'd propagate it any way..

I think crossing these are the way to go. I am going to try it this year just for fun. I just love surprises. You have been so successful Kyle. All of yours look great. You must love walking into your greenhouse every day.

Gosh, 9528!! That is something to think about.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

Kell, I throw a lot out after they bloom, for different reasons, many don't make the grade.Too small, too thin, dull colors, curled edges etc.Only keep the good ones.

Kyle :-)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I am sure it is just like brugs, I tossed so many more out than I ever kept. But I always had such excitement before all the new ones opened. Everything was possible then.

All I have seen of yours are just great, Kyle. Of everyone I have met on here, I would love your life the most. You are so lucky to work at what you love and get paid for it. And you are are so good at it all!

Plus my ideal job would be doing large containers. I just love combo pots. And then you have an entire city to place them. What a life.

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 8b)

Kyle your brown is just stunning! It reminds me of those chocolate orange candies you can buy around Christmas - they're shaped like an orange and have a chocolate/orange taste combo, totally yummy, but I don't know if it's a California thing. A number of years ago I was an office manager at a gourmet chocolate factory and we had a truffle with this flavoring called L'Orang - it was a huge seller...

You have such gift for these crosses, I think you'd make a fortune if you began selling :-)

Why don't I ever find jobs like that????? :-)))

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

I only get to spend about an hour a day on the hibiscus, the rest is all about growing the 600,000 bedding plants, the 1000 poinsettias, the 2000 mums etc also as well as getting the tropicals ready to plant out then doing the 600 planters downtown and upkeep of other things so theres more to this job then just foolin with the flowers. :-) not so dreamy now huh??? LOL

I don't know, it still sounds like you're getting paid to garden and that sure sounds alright to me!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL. And gardening with someone elses money. Sounds perfect. LOL. And do you have staff to do all the no fun chores? If the answer is YES, I am so there. LOL

I could help you do the 600 containers. I love putting those together. So Kyle, do you get the latest poinsettias to play with? This year I did not see too many new ones. I was so disappointed. I always enjoy them so much. Armstrong has a contract with Ecke so I am not sure how I missed them. I must have gone too late. I hear talk that they may try to market them, exp the nonred ones, all year round. Some are just so fancy now.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I don't think you missed the poinsettias Kell--I was at Armstrong several times leading up to the holidays and they had plenty of poinsettias but nothing that looked that special. The new popular thing this year was the spray-painted poinsettias--looks like they airbrush them with some unnatural color like blue or purple, throw a bit of glitter on them, and sell them for ridiculous amounts of money. I had seen some of those last year, but this year they seemed to be popping up everywhere.

I wonder what sort of new hibiscus varieties we could make if we got out the spray paint and glitter? LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Liz. I saw those when I was at Armstrong. Gag me.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Sounds like plant abuse to me.

Kell we got cuttings of this one for next year.."Cinnamon Star" pics don't do it justice..looks like sunset shades of orange /cream/yellow/ etc. Very beautiful in person. We can order any of the more than 50 varieties that Eckes has , just a matter of what my boss thinks look good. :-( some people have no color vision..LOL

I so wanted to see that one in person, Kyle. Tell your boss I will pick the poinsettias for him. LOL. I have great color vision even if it clashes at times.

Here is another I wanted to see. I was trying to imagine an orange poinsettia.

Wish I could have poinsettas, but all mine are fake! With one dog and 4 cats, can't take the chance :(

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

I thought they recently decided that poinsettias are not as dangerous as they originally thought. Probably best not to take a chance anyway.

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

I've heard that too. If the pets are dedicated plant-munchers then I wouldn't take the chance, but they'd have to eat a fair amount to really hurt themselves, and with the irritating milky sap that everything in that family has I can't imagine they taste good, so I think they'd probably stop after the first bite!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I guess I am so lucky. With all the plants I have all over, none of my 4 cats have ever taken even 1 bite. In fact I have had cats for my entire adult life along with plants and never had a cat eat a plant.
