I have an interesting question. Has anyone tried to raise Parakeets in a Greenhouse. I have a 10' x 10 ' greenhouse that I heat in the winter. It usually doesn't get below 40 degrees in there. What kind of temperature ranges can a parakeet tolerate without getting sick. If this is not the right forum could you recommend one please?
Parakeets in a Greenhouse?
Parakeets are all over Florida and it goes below 40 there. I guess it would depend on how long the temp is that low.Below 45 for more than a few days could be a problem. I wonder if they would go under a heat lamp. I've never tried that, though one of mine was really fond of the top of the heat duct in the winter.
Hi! I'm assuming you mean the Budgerigars =) I love those guys! I've heard the ideal temp. for these guys 65 - 80 degrees but they can adjust to anything from below freezing to a hundred degrees. Temperatures often drop below freezing in Australian deserts during the winter, but I don't know how often they're in the cold, or if the ones bred in captivity still have this ability... so! I'm going to send you a budgie site that has a Q&A! They also have really fun recipes and such for them! Let me know how it goes, that sounds like a lot of fun!

Recipies for budgies? Aren't they kind of small to eat? (Sorry, I couldn't resist)
Tastes budgierrific jylgaskin!
lol!! Well... Budgerigar means "good eating" or "good food" in some Aboriginal languages....But I set myself up for that one!! lol
I raised parakeets for several years. They can adjust down to 50 but 60 is really as cold as it should get. More than one or two nights at anywhere near 40 degrees could be detremental to those little guys. I am a big fan of Diamond Doves, and they can tolerate cold and heat well. I am also asuming that your greenhouse has no plants in it? There are many plants that are not good for them either. Good luck. Oh, the doves are much easier breeders.
Ohh, I love diamond doves! I've never had one though........yet. ;) teehee!
