Art Colony is wonderful, I love those colors.

Thanks Ardesia,
I love the colors as well.
Here is a pic of it today with donor foliage

Here is a "Me oh my oh" that threw me for a loop today. I have never seen it this way. In the move to the GH some of my old tags were faded so I made new. Thought I might have mis-labeled it but I checked and double checked it is the right plant. Some of the blooms are unrecognizable, it's almost staggering. You grow to know and love one and next thing you know you see it's alter ego. Well, I Like the alter ego "Me oh my oh" better but It will soon disappear in a couple of months.

Love that "Mon Ami" and it's color. Very nice pictures of all of them, Robert.

Thanks Brugie,

Hopefully you are staying warm!!! It's dipping into the mid 20's here tonight but I can only imagine what it is there.

Take Care,
Robert

Robert, thank you. Our temps are going to be on the climb for a while. Right now it is ten degrees, but we are supposed to be in the forties by the weekend. I hope the cold doesn't reach too far south.

Robert, Love Art Colony. Will it be for sale?
Spent last night till 3am and today till 1pm taking down netting lights to cover roots on 20 gallon pots, and also top of plants. Then covered with sheets.
Storage shed has 50 16 gallon or smaller plants, with living room lamp in the middle for heat.
(buying a small heater after this freeze is over)
50 plants on patio, between 2 cement walls, with net lights atop the plants and then sheets. Pool table light has 3 bulbs and pool table is protecting from winds on two sides.
Lots of work, but hopefully it pays off. Leaving net lights around roots for rest of season....just in case!
Hope all is well, and no one loses any babies due to this cold front hitting Florida and Texas, and the carolinas.
PS....no pics today. Just glad babies are all protected.
PSS....also had to cover all plants in butterfly gardens, as they are tropical as well.

I've been awake for hours but I am not looking forward to the sun coming up; I am afraid of what I will see outside today. All my hibs in pots came into the house but there are plenty in the ground that are too big to cover. I expect there will be major carnage out there today.

Hey Cat,
If you need get a small propane tank and a tank top heater. I use one of these in my smaller house. Keeps it really warm. It is radiant heat and would be great for your patio or outdoors. I use it outdoors to.

Ardesia,
I hope you weather this front with minimal damage. I know the feeling that you are having right now.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I hope you all didn't have much damage. I'd rather here you say you had NO damage tho. This is one good thing about Iowa. We know in the fall, everything has to come in, so we don't have to deal with the surprise cold/freezing snaps.

Hey Brugie,

It's kinda funny here where I am. We put it off as long as we can. Then when we have to we scurry around trying not to panic LOL I feel for Cat. Until I got my GH I had them in my garage, kitchen (which I still do) and every nook and cranny that I could find. I do keep a few of my favorites out because of the ups and downs here in temps. If I have to bring them in for a night or 2 thats fine then they go right back out. I still get to enjoy them either way. We had a freak front last april on easter weekend. I did not plan for it or even count on it for that matter. Freezing and sleet in southeast texas in april (how absurd) LOL I was out of town and I lost a couple of my favorites :-( Still have not been able to replace them. Lesson Learned!!!

Take Care,
Robert

Yeah, all zones have their good and bad points; the downside to 9a is these sneaky freezes. We are the coldest we have been since 2002 and it is supposed to be in the 70's within a day or so. Schizophrenic weather!!!!!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Freezing and sleet in April would be a bit of a shock. At least you were able to save almost all of them. What ones did you lose? I know I don't have them, just curious.

Schizophrenic weather.....I love that one. LOL!

Nederland, TX(Zone 9a)

Boy are you right Ardesia,

You never know when to trust the forecast. Weather channel says one thing, Trusty little weather bug says another then local forecast says another. Weather persons have it made. We all find ourselves saying "I thought they said that it was supposed to................" LOL

Take Care and stay warm,
Robert

Hi Brugie
I lost my Huge and favorite Black Voodoo. I had ordered one in but it was not the same. It was so brittle that all of the branches broke off. Then I decided to get the last 2 that david had. Well the good old guys at Fed-ex loaded on the wrong truck in the heat of the summer and sent my order to disneyland (Florida) to see Cat LOL by way of their ground truck, and 12 days later I got them all mushy warm and steamy. They refunded the claim but the plants were lost. The other was an unknown. Beautiful color changing single that I first thought to be 5th dimension but the colors changed 4 to 5 times through a pastel color wheel but I never knew what it was except for beautiful. I have never come across another. Hope it is warming up for you. It is supposed to be in the mid 70's here on saturday. Our good ol' Texas Pneumonia weather!!! If i spelled it right. LOL

Take care,
Robert

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Gosh, that's too bad. I guess those guys/gals can't read addresses sometimes. Maybe someone here can help you out. I sure don't have Black VooDoo or anything that changes colors like you mention. I hope your weather does get up into the 70's. I'd sure love it, but will be happy with half of that.

Robert,
Could you email me the info about the heater? I really need one :(

Robert, your pictures are great, and Art Colony is really special. I've got to duplicate Cat's question about availability ;-)

Liz, your Black Dragon is beautiful, don't you just love it!

Ardesia, I bet Holly's Pride really brightens your winter home, it's fluffy and pretty!

I've actually got a picture to add, but it's from a couple days ago. This is my Suave's first bloom, and I really like it :-) I've been a bad hibiscus mommy the last few months, but I'm back "on flower patrol" once again now and am hoping for a beautiful spring..

I do love Black Dragon--it's such a huge flower and such a gorgeous color, couldn't ask for anything better! Now that it's bloomed for me I'm going to have to go back and update my top 10 list in the other thread we had going! Suave is really pretty--what a nice color to brighten up a cloudy winter day!
