Happy New Year Everybody!!!!!

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

Just a warm wish to everyone for a safe, happy, and prosperous new year! At least for me, I was glad to put 2007 to bed, and have high hopes for 2008. I have an interview at a nearby hospital on Friday, so maybe things are turning around already!

Love and hugs to all!

Thanks guys!!!

That 'Party Boy' photo was taken in early December, when all the blooms had opened. Would you know it is STILL blooming, and I did try the pollinating x self thing, so I'm hoping for some seed from it too! I've had trouble with keeping the mature streps going, like so many other people... I ususally have to snip some leaves off before they die and start from scratch. But this guy is going strong!

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers on Friday!!!

Happy New Year to you, Janet...we miss you ......don't be a stranger........

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

I have been crazy lately, Gail! With the holidays it has been a zoo at my house and of course I have been doing too much, so have been up a while and then down a while...I miss you guys when we are not playing bingo though!

I just found out recently that my Aunt (whom I was named for) is an avid AV collector...I had no idea. She has quite a collection, and according to her, her home looks like a nursery/florist....so I need to go to see her and get some of her leaves! LOL She lives about 80 miles from me, so it would be a two day trip for sure.

I was pleased to find out someone in my family loves them, besides me!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

How lucky for you to get to go. I would spend the night just to have more time to visit with her. These people who have been growing for years know soooo much I am finding out from the ladies in the AV club in Corpus Christi. They want me to enter something at the show in February and I can't even understand the different divisions to enter (LOL).

I have read the papers over and over. This is going to be a joke but I won't be a spoiler as she insists that everyone needs to participate for the good of the club. You ought to see me pinching blooms off of every single plant I have in preparation for any plant that might qualify !!!!!!!! There will be lots of laughs.

Make a list of what you aunt has. I would wager she has some fabulous vintage avs.....

Braselton, GA(Zone 7b)

Oh, yes, I will have to spend the night. I will make a list and let you know what she has too!

I am sure you will do well in the show! You do so much with your plants, and I think you know a lot more than you realize. Keep us posted on how it goes and how you do too! We will want to see pictures for sure!

I am not telling, Janet (lol)
These ladies are good that belong to the club..........and, as I said, I can't even read and understand what the rules are .........

Jan... that sinningia is beautiful with the yellow in the throat!
What is it?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Final decision made:
I am going to quit worrying about these silly plants and the av show. Don't know what I am doing and am not going to let the next 7 weeks upset me!! There is no one around to show me so I am planning on a good time to go see my daughter and her family in January.

Plants will always be a joy for me and i don't need a ribbon to know that! (lol)

Off to have a good time.....

PS I hope we don't all freeze! It was 28 this morning and tonight will be colder. I don't even remember this kind of weather in south Texas!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Take a look at your plants before the show anyway, 'cause I'm betting you'll find some worthy entrants. If you're not sure about the rules and divisions, maybe you can just take a couple plants that you think are looking great along with you, and let one of the experts help you enter it when you get there. Meanwhile, as you said, just relax, enjoy your family, and enjoy your plants!

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

Gail- If you and your plants weren't worthy, they wouldn't be after you so much to enter! So relax, and as critter said, pick a couple of the one you like most and let them decide for you! WE ALL KNOW YOU CAN DO IT!!!! But the main point is to have fun doing it. Things done by choice should be fun!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks for your encouragement ladies! I realized this morning that i was getting upset and feeling pressure about the whole thing. Finally I just made up my mind to do exactly what Critter said. I will just take what I think looks good and let the ladies in the club decide if they should or should not be entered.
