Hey good people, I hit the jackpot!!!!! Lowe's in Carlisle, Pa. 3 tri-colored Pepperomias in 4 inch pots: 25 cents each. One Earth star: only 25 cents, and two huge 12-inch hanging pots of Kangaroo Fern for you?????25 cents. Last year, I found 6 orchids for $ 1.00/each. I kept 2 orchids (last year), 4 went to the raffle table, and will keep one Kangaroo Ivy this year and donate the rest to my local Hobby Greenhouse Club for the raffle table. So let's hear about your plant bargains you found. Happy New Year everybody from Buttoneer, the bargaineer.
After Christmas bargains at stores
cha-ching, what a jackpot. my Lowes didn't have any goodies for me. I now have one five minutes from home which is great, but it only opened this fall, so no summer stuff to clearance. tropicals clearance was no great thrill, example, the gone-by orchids are always still 6.99
HI Sally, when did you check Lowe's? I got these bargains today. If it was awhile ago, it might be worth your while to check now. Have a Happy New Year to you & your family.
Thanks! Happy New year back atcha !! am I pitiful for being here posting? dear hubby is behind me diagnosing the old computer.
just yesterday I went for painting supplies but just happened to go past the plant area, ahem..... dangit, I was there again today but didn't check plants. This was the new one in Severn, haven't been to Glen Burnie
Did score a cute Smith and Hawken watering can at Target, 75 percent off just cuz it had a red bow to make it a Xmas watering can. !!
Lowes here has all their boxed amaryllis and other holiday bulbs (hyacinths and paperwhites with forcing glasses) for $1.24. I got a couple of dwarf Alberta spruces for $1.75 because they had red bows and shiny paper around their pots. If anyone needs any rosemary, they had rosemary Christmas trees too.
I just kind of buzzed past the houseplants. They had a table with a few marked down 75% but they looked pretty pitiful so I didn't look closer.
aaack- I might as well resign myself to a daily trip to Lowes Glen Burnie...maybe I should just go to work for the one close by.
well, I just read up on replacing the 'guts' of a lamp. Buy a kit, and sounds really easy. I have Mom's old one with a nice base. Now I have a good excuse to visit Lowe's !!!!!!!!!!
I bought a roll of wire and acquired a bunch of lamps at a biweekly auction I attended regularly the first couple years we lived here... I was "queen of the $1 lamps" LOL. Actually, it's amazing how "ugly" lamps can be improved by mixing and re-matching bases and shades, and even if the lamp isn't otherwise redeemable, the harp & socket can be salvaged for less than the cost of buying a lamp kit at the store.
You got some great plant bargains!!
There is a shop in VA (Culpeper? Middleburg? Maybe further south... Darn it, I cannot recall) that sells an incredible selection of lamp shades - some of which are very ornate, hand-painted, others are just plain jane, etc. It's a great place to go if you are re-furbishing lamps and are looking for *just* the right something. I know a sculptor who makes lamps and that was where she always went for the shades. I'll try and come up with the name...
I think I'll try to salvage the shade frame. It's in good shape, just the pleated fabric cover kind of old and the lining that it used to have dry-rotted out. I learned a lot from Google and Dave's today.
Wow - I missed out on Lowe's!
IKEA at College Park had some decent houseplants for 1.99 - draecaena, mini-palms, etc.
I've been very pleased with the diversified selection our Ikea (Woodbridge) has - plants are healthy and price is right esp. considering some are not the common ones found every where (still love my cacti)
