'Boxwood' basil

Turlock, CA(Zone 9a)

Burpee came out with this compact basil and I just ordered some seeds. I just love to try new varieties and will let you know how this one is. I loved the look of basil 'Perpetual' but didn't care for the taste. Hopefully this will taste better and it looks like a great container plant!

Please do report back... I love basil - and basil loves the hot, sandy High Desert! ... so mnay basils, so little time :-)

I would be interested in hearing how this turns out, too! I've not had great luck with compact basils thus far... Flavor-wise, the ones that I've tried in the past have been a bit too bland or simply lack the traditional basil flavor. Perhaps I'm just a sweet basil snob... :-) I'd love to find a compact basil that truly tastes like basil!

Yes, definitely keep us posted! My favorite compact basil is probably 'Minette', and I thought the flavor was good, if not on the same level as the big Italian basils. 'Window Box' was pretty bland for me. The flavor of 'Spicy Globe' is excellent, but I haven't yet had it grow out from seed with that nice, compact, globe shape of the plants I've bought on occasion from DeBaggio's. The seed grown plants turn out small-leafed, but taller and leggy, more like 'Fine Verde'. (I haven't managed to save seed from DeBaggio's plants and didn't get there at the right time for basils the last couple of years... maybe this year.)
