New kitties!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Thank you all for your kitty toy advice a few weeks ago. We bought the bunnies (aka our daughters, ages 4 and 6) various kitty toys and accessories for Christmas, which was very fun. Yesterday we went down to our local animal shelter (www.cap4pets.org) and adopted two kitties. Yayyy! The bunnies are ALMOST as excited about them as I am. :-)

They are brothers, just over a year old. They've been in foster care/the shelter on the weekends for about 4 months. Their foster parents obviously did a great job with them, because they are very social for only being here for 24 hours. :-) We haven't named them yet... The big bunny wanted to name one "Joe." Dh liked "Petronius Arbiter." (rolling eyes... LOL) The little bunny just says "Awww... kitties!" every time they wander by. I'm thinking it might take us a while to figure out what to officially call them. In the meantime, they are "kitty", or "baby", or "little brother", or "Hey!" depending on who's talking and what the kitties are doing. LOL

So far they have found the litter box with no trouble (we let them out of the crate near the litter boxes and then took them back there a couple of times last night to remind them.. apparently that worked.) They have been drinking water just fine, but have mostly ignored the food. We misread their label and bought them kitten food, thinking that they were only 7 months old now... Maybe we should go ahead and switch to the adult cat food we had already bought, but haven't opened yet? Do you suppose they would like that better? Their paperwork from their foster mom says that they have been eating dry food, but doesn't say which kind. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Here is a not very good picture of the two of them.. I love the shared grey stripe motif. They both have white tail tips, too, which are really cute. :-) I'll post some more pictures next.
