Tall Bearded Iris 'Wintry Sky'

"Wintry Sky," Keppel. Has distinctive blue color emanating from its throat. Nice, subtle touch sets it apart.

Wintry Sky also grows in MA, but the standards are more violet than blue in our 6.5 ph soil.

Interesting irisMA,
I have heard that ph affects flower color, but this is the first example of it I have heard.

Colors seem brighter in the Pacific NW than here. We can also fade things, light blue irises turn white for us.Example: Star of Africa (lt. Blue) is white here. the intensity of color in S of 'Wintry Sky' is still there, just the shade of the color differs.

Hi folks--Happy new year!

The blue I referred to was not the standards (which are also more of a violet color here, too) but small streaks of deep blue which emanate from the throat and onto the falls just beside the beards. I never read of Keith Keppel describing it this way so perhaps this is really unusual! The standards are actually not as deeply colored as I'd hoped they'd be. This wasn't due to sun, either, because this is an early blooming variety and was planted in partial shade.

For the difference in color in an established plant versus a young, immature iris, check out the two photos I have of "Rustle of Spring." I am truly glad I waited another year on that one. It's spectacular.

I have another photo where you can see this blue coloring in Wintry Sky, and I'll try to post it today.

I did check out your pictures of Rustle of Spring. Amazing the difference between the first year and the one taken several years later. Another stunning iris.
