CLOSED: Anyone want some Gaillardia Goblin(?) seeds?

Chesapeake, VA

At least, I think that is what it is. It looks like the pictures of it. Make me an offer!

Be aware there were a couple of YELLOW ones in the patch, too, but I only collected seeds from the goblins. Official disclaimer: I can't swear that the yellow's pollen didn't drift over to the goblins.

But still, these are pretty plants. Even the yellow ones are pretty. And, the yellows and goblins have mostly gone to seed, but they are still blooming, here at the end of December. And that counts for something.

So, make me an offer I can't refuse.

I would love to try some of your gaillarda seeds. I am trying wintersowing for the first time and don't have lots of things to trade yet. However, I have harvested seed from a few things...Aster 'October Skies', Verbena bonairensis, or some small white mums that I got from Bluestone Perennials in the summer...I'd have to look up which ones, but they did very well for me despite the drought they had to endure. I also have a few seeds from Chrysanthemum 'Sheffield Pink' and some shasta daisys.
Let me know if I have anything you'd like.

Well, I would be interested in the Verbena and the October Skies aster.

I have your address, so the mail goes out Wednesday. I would like to offer you something else. I don't really have a trade list, but I have a few olive tree seeds and a few balsam seeds. Maybe some black-eyed susans. If I think of anything else, I'll throw it in.

Garner, NC(Zone 7b)

Sounds good! I have your address as well and will send some out on Wed., too. Thanks!

I would like to have a few seeds also. I have Rose of Sharon mixed colors, nicotiana (tinker bell) and holly hocks. These are seeds I received in trade but I can share since I only need a few seeds for germination.

velmansia, you sound just like me ("I only need a few seeds for germination"). I like a lot of things, but now a lot of anything. In other words - I like variety.

My envelop to you goes out tomorrow.

Antioch, TN

Brightstar, the seeds came in today and I am very thankful to you for your generosity. I would love to send you something in return but I don't know what you would like to have. Do you need purple shamrock? I don't have seeds but I can send you the croms when they do come up in Spring.
Thanks again for your kindness.

Thanks so much! I received your generous packet of seeds today, too! I will send out your packet tomorrow for sure. Kids at school sapped my resolve on their first days back from the holiday break, so I am behind.

velmansia,

I do have some purple shamrocks, but I like to share with people so I can pass them on to my friends. So, purple shamrocks would be fine.

I like variety.

I hope the gaillardia does well for you. One caution, though...I included some black sesame seeds as a treat for the two of you. Be careful to harvest the seed pods before they split open at one end - you don't want to let the seeds spill out! This was my first year with them, and I was pleased, but I can see how they could get out of hand. I checked them every day once the pods turned yellowish, then tan as they "dried up" and started to split open on one end.

Another caution: put them in tomato cages - in spite of the plant itself looking tall and tough like a tomato plant, the stems are far more fragile. They will break without the tomato cage. The seeds have a nice nutty flavor. Good for cooking!

Thanks for the info on the sesame seeds! I was wondering about those and can't wait to give them a try. Are they candidates for wintersowing? If they do well I'll have lots of folks asking about them...we veg garden by the street where the garden gets the most sunlight:-)

Brightstar, I was just about to ask you about the black sesame, Thanks for the info. I looked it up in the plant file but could not find it-is there another name for it?

Chesapeake, VA

I don't think it is posted yet in Davesgarden. I did see a website awhile ago that had information on it. I'll locate it and post some info. I had pictures of the mother plants, too...

These plants grow tall, like 5 1/2 feet, but straight up (except for flopping). Few side shoots. So you can grow several in a relatively small space.

I got the original seeds from a lady from Thailand. She would bring them to work to nibble on. I think I saw a recipe for Morocan chicken, where the seeds coated the chicken. I think they would be good on cookies.

I will get some info and post it in the Plant Guide.

Garner, NC(Zone 7b)

That sounds quite unique and exciting! I'll get the tomato cages out!

Chesapeake, VA

You know, maybe I closed this thread prematurely. Let's keep it open awhile. Anyone else want some Gaillardia? Also...I do have more black sesame...(an understatement).

Make me an offer, folks!

Hi Brightstar,

I would be interested in both Gaillardia Goblin and Sesame seeds.

I have lots to offer in return. Just take a look at my seedlist.

If there's anything on it that you like, please send me a d-mail.

Thanks, tcs1366! I'll check it out!

Hi Brightstar,

If you should happen to have any seeds left I would be glad to share something of mine too that might interest you. Since I am new to DG I have not gotten my whole list up of seeds I have - most I would assume are common ones that you probably already have in your garden :( but since my boyfriend bought me a greenhouse in Dec 06 I have just seriously taken up collecting seeds so I do apologize in advance if my seeds are seemingly rudementary ...I am having to look up latin names as I go along and am just trying to figure out the whole thing LOL some other seeds I do have that are not listed yet are Husker Bearded Tongue in white, a pixie lily that I have yet to ID (its pic is below so you can see it), purple sweet potato vine, pumpkin seeds from large carving pumpkins, moss rose in yellow and pink, confederate rose, cosmos (sea shell mixed), Bachelors Button cornflower blue. Let me know if anything interests you. Thanks so much!

I too have "Goblin" in case Brightstar runs out.

Chesapeake, VA

Not too much danger of that, tcs1366! I'm getting the seeds from about 30 plants.

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

LOL... and i thought i had a lot.

Chesapeake, VA

rednyr, I would like the cosmos and some of the beardtongue. I'll probably start mailing out on Monday. Just to give fair warning, a few "Fanfare" gaillardia seeds might creep into the mix, too. At least, one of the mother plants looks like that.

In addition, it is my custom to slip in a couple of surprise packets, too - life is so predictable that I like to throw a wrench in the works sometimes, just to keep things interesting. And...I won't tell you ahead of tiime what the surprise packets are!

Chesapeake, VA

tcs1366...I hate to admit it, but...yep, I'm pretty bad.

Sumter, SC(Zone 8a)

Brightstar,

Thanks so much!! I really do appreciate it! I have sent you my address and look forward to my first swap yippeee LOL

Chesapeake, VA

It would help me in coming up with "treats" if I could know which of you have sunrooms or greenhouses for winter protection...

Sumter, SC(Zone 8a)

heated GH here

I just got some Centaura and Penstemmon started today in some flats...I feel like I really accomplished something today LOL

Chesapeake, VA

Me, too, Deanna - although my "heated" is just a tiny space heater. Still, it does the job. I am raising a lot of seedlings in little styrfoam cups for a plant sale in the spring - many of them from trades in this seed trade forum. So far, only mina lobata and Greek cerinthe retorta have come up, but it's been less than two weeks. This spring - I'll be ready!

Sumter, SC(Zone 8a)

Mel - I use a space heater also, my dh is small, 10x12 with a slanted plexi glass side that lets in all kinds of wonderful light - I actually have a rocking chair and some books out there too for times I need a quick get a way. I also followed a great suggestion someone on DG had and have painted numerous 2 liter bottles black filled with water and they add some passive solar heating coupled with my heat lamp bulb in the roof.

Chesapeake, VA

Well, mine is only 10x10, but it has an "onion" roof (a Riga). It is so pretty lit up at night - like something out of Arabian nights or something. I have a chair in there, too, and lights - but no books - as moist as it is, a book would get soggy. No black bottles, but I have heard of people doing that. I don't have a heat lamp, either, but I do have an automatic window at the top, which is great, and a "Mr Ed" window on the door and at the back of the greenhouse. If I had a horse in there, he could hang his head out.

I went to Arizona last year, and I have a "cowboy" scenario at the top shelf - with real cactus, plastic cowboys and horses, and Indian-like pottery.

Chesapeake, VA

I have a few ghost plants. I want to put them in a dish garden, with some tiny, tiny houses. Then it will be a ghost town.

Sumter, SC(Zone 8a)

That sounds totally cool! I like your idea of the ghost town....that is very unusual and will create some conversations when friends come to visit I bet!

Chesapeake, VA

OK, I'm closing the thread. I'm naturally forgetful, and I mess up sometimes, so if anyone doesn't get their package, please let me know. Happy trading.

Garner, NC(Zone 7b)

Good luck closing it...It seems to be quite popular, lol! I'm sending your seeds out today.
Bev

Chesapeake, VA

I'll probably start it up again in a couple of weeks. Still a lot of seeds.
