Found these beauties growing in our mulch pile...would love to know what they are. The top looks like a morel...but it is simply a cap...no substance underneath...
Did I mention we have had a lot of rain????
Carol
Anyone into mushrooms?
The surprising thing is that they are about 5" - 8" tall!!
Those are so cool looking, like something out of a sci-fi movie. I'd be watching them to make sure they didn't start sprouting antennae and beeping for the mother ship!
Cathy
OK...got an ID.
Phallus duplicatus.
STOP LAUGHING!!!!
Ohhoohhhooohoo...sooo funny. No other comment needed. hahahaha hehehehe ohooohooo

Lol Carol, you really do have a magic forest!
Sorry...just got the word from the Head Micologist at the University...it is Dictyophora cinnabarina...boring name. I like the Phallus thingy better!!!
Liked your name better! Are they edible?
That takes all of the fun out if now. :~(

everything you never wanted to know about Dictyophora cinnabarina......
but a fascinating mushroom nonetheless.
Braveheartsmom really did kill that.
Hope you people weren't having breakfast over there.
I'm sure she didn't mean to turn our stomachs though. :)
Dictyophora cinnabarina
Jenny, maybe they are cinnamon flavored? hee hee
Cathy
Acually that was an absolutely innocent question, never thought...
Never took it any other way, Jenny. It would be great if they WERE edible....
Golly - what a faux pas - didn't even realize until germinator said something!
Braveheartsmom, SORRY!
I was just playing around. :)
Without AlohaHoya's comment and pepper23's reaction (which I now realize was also about the name confirmation) I wouldn't have even thought you meant anything terrible. :)
Either way, if you can't have a little fun what is the point of anything. :)))
