For those of you who have ordered from Silver Star Vinery - Debbie - in Washington - the Internation Clematis Society (I think that's the name) will be introducing a new Clematis, which she recently received the certifed paperwork - Debbie Fischer - is the new clematis. What an honor. She has worked with many high profile folks in the clematis community over the years and was honored with this new HOT PINK clematis with leaves, as she says, that look simular to a Japanese Maple leaf. Can't wait to see this one. She has seen pictures but has not received her first name sake.
Be sure to check out her website which is now taking orders. I've started my list.
Kathy

Thank you Kathi I am now in trouble!!
Thanks Kathy....I better e-mail her and put in my order...Debbies is the best and she a very nice lady..I gotta find out when her new ones available its a must have, plus!!!:o)
Debbie called me tonight and she hasn't gotten her plant yet but I already said I wanted one too. She and I have become great friends - never met, but sisters at heart. We've already called each other 3 times this week - and it's Wed.
Her plants are the very best. What an honor to have any plant named after you. She really is a wonderful person and knows her clematis like no body else.
Be sure to tell Debbie I told you about this.
Kathy
I did Kathy...she said you two are like sisters....One thing about Debbie she is always there to help and does know her stuff...Sometimes peeps thinks they're getting a good deal from the big box stores...not so once you have to baby them and they still die!!!Debbies are the BEST....When I recieved my first order from her,I could'nt believe the roots on them..plus some had flowers on them..Anyone that has a question for her shes there to answer you!!!:o)
My favorite is Princess Diana...she blooms from early Spring till the frost gets her...Anyone that don't look at her site are loosing out....prepare to be there a long time!!!
I have Debbie a birthday card (feb 3) and it's a "to my sister" card - I'm an only child and she may as well be.
I got about 9 plants from her last year and I just couldn't believe it. When I would get clematis from the box store and re-pot them the ONE ROOT would be about 2 inches long. Debbie's are grown for 2 or 3 years before they leave her greenhouse. There's so many I like I have to tell her - I want LONG blooming, what color, what sun it gets and she tells me what I should pick. Plus, I never knew there were #2, #3 and #1 - which she says I'm not ready to manage yet. She's afraid I will cut it back to far I think. I would - since last year was my first year with having a REAL clematis vs. a stick.
Kathy
OH yeah she gives us good instructions,,if I ever have a question about one shes quick to give a answer...I try to stick with the hard prune ones and the ones that give me blooms all summer...
I was tired of planting sticks too, thanks to Debbies Clematis I know what a Clematis is supposed to do.....
I see your sis is going on a trip in March..have fun!!!!I remember the pictures of your beautiful home...I think it was a Christmas photo...:o)
I called her last night and of course we discussed COWS in Texas! LOL
Can you believe that person used her info to post on threads. And posting pictures of her 35 years old vs. the huge old age of ??
We'll have to do a personal damail on this topic.
Yeah, I can't wait for her to visit. It's going to be WILD.
Kathy
I guess everything grows big in Texas including COWS!!!LOL..On those photos I really got to laugh at that one...35 years!!!Perhaps we should do that..hmmm!!!
You gotta tell me the ones you ordered or already have growing...Oh yes we must do personal D-mails...
When Debbie gets there you gotta do lots of photos and share them with me...how lucky can you get having such a wonderful person as your sister...Seems like you two keep the phone lines hot...thats what you call true friendship...
She said you have a 'sister' in CA - who's that? She said it was a DG member.
Kathy...I sent you a d-mail....
You gotta tell me which ones you ordered...Do you have Princess Diana???I sure want the one named after Debbie...how wonderful is that!!!!
I don't recall all the names, I"m really bad about that with most plants but will get better this year. I've sent Debbie a wish list of colors and she sent me a note back with her suggestion - let me find that and I"ll be back.
k
I have one from her its called fairy something...I gotta find out the rest of its name...its another good one...I need 4 more and just have her choose for me...I'll just let her know what colors and long bloomers....
Abundance, Rouge Cardinal and Barbara Harrington
This is a list of 3 that I got but haven't found the emails from her other 2 shipments.
I gotta go check our her Rouge Cardinal....is it really red????/
Silver Vinery is the type of nursery I love to order from - small and run by a very knowledgeable owner. Debbie's plants are the best. This year I ordered the new red herbaceous clematis 'Ember'. The last time I checked her website it was sold out so I'm glad I ordered mine early. Can't wait to get it!
Oh yes I loved the Ember one..I did'nt do my order yet hope Debbie gets more of that one in...I need a late Spring delivery..do you get yours now???
I need to check out the Ember.
What suggestions do you guys have for the white fence in my front yard - I'm planting red and pink roses from Diamond123's co-op and need either deep purple or blues to add contract.
Kathy
Multi Blue or The President: both should bloom with the roses.
'Harlow Carr is one Debbie likes. I think I have that correct. I need to read about this one.
Evison was on radio here about two years talking about that whole series.
Demstratt, no I order for shipment after April 15. As you know here in the Chicago area it is normal to get snow as late at end of March, first week in April.
Felisa
Hello All,
I just put my order in for 7 new varieties based on all your good pictures and wonderful posts about Debbies plants. I am a clematis lover and have about 70+. Only a little over 50 are different varieties.
I know big box stores are not where you want to buy these but...... But I have to tell you a great story. 4 years ago I walked into a Lowes store in Mi. and they had 2 full racks of clematis normally 14.99 marked down to $1.00. That's right ONE DOLLAR in one gallon pots!!!!
I did not know much about them. I only had a few at the time. So i bought about 10-12. Then
I went home and told a friend of mine and we came back only to find the racks almost empty.
We bought every last one. I should have bought them all the first time!! Well this will never happen to me when I KNOW what I'm doing!! I did get some good Clem's. but I missed out on all the unusual ones because I had never heard of them so I was not interested!! What a silly move as I look back. Oh well I did get about 20 nice clematis that are still growing in my yard today!!! This Lowes was notorious for marking down lots of plants. I bought 100 carpet roses all red for $1.00 each in one gallon pots. I also got 50% off double knock outs this year.
The discounts aren't as plentiful as they have been in years past but I do interior renovations
so I am in these stores at least once every day and I always make my way to the Garden center clearance area!! I have found some real deals!!
Julie
Julie I think I need to move to Michigan if for nothing else to buy cheap plants(and then ship them home to my nice warm state)
I found it difficult in the last year to find too many deals. i used to get alot of good deals but the big box stores have gone to a vendor for their nursery stock and they don't mark down like they used to! Those days are gone but ohhhh the memory of the deal lives on!!!
Here's to new deals in the new year!!
Julie
