The liner had developed holes - roots from the mussaenda plant close to it had grown through it. I postponed the repair by more than 4 months. Water seeped through albeit slowly. I allowed water to seep to know exactly to which level it works. It confirmed that it stopped at where the roots had pierced. In this picture the stones have been removed, water level low, liner removed to air out.
Year end Pond pictures
Will you be applying patches to the liner? Can you prevent the plant roots from invading and piercing the liner again? What is the purple plant in the center of the photo?

1. Yes, I applied patches to the liner with a rubber based adhesive and stuck a piece of the liner cut from the edge.
2. Yes, I can prevent roots from re-entering. This time I used a waste OHP transparency sheet where the roots pierced along the side of the pond. This should divert the roots as it is hard.
3. The purple thing you ask is the flower. Water lily. I have resized this picture so it appears smaller and poor in quality. However, you can see quite a few of its pics in my threads in the Water garden forum. It's my favourite flower!
4. Since repairing, I have filled with water and it is holding up well. May be there is another small tiny hole somewhere as water level is very slowly reducing. Very slow though. As of now I don't see this as a problem.
You've been working! My ponds hold water perfectly through the winter months here. But in the warmer months when the pumps and waterfalls are running both have a slow water loss. Some is due to splash and evaporation and some is due to leaks I can't find at the waterfall. I've tried every thing to locate them. It's an aggravation. I should have known the blue flower was a water lilly. I still have as a screensaver one of the gorgeous photos you posted last summer.
OHP transparency sheet? I'm sure the warm climate ponders here would love to know what that is. Maybe us cold climate ponders too. Invading roots can be a problem in a lot of situations.
Ah yes, the blue water lily! You are right.
OHP is Overhead Projector. People use it to present their items to an audience. They are either written or printed on those sheets made of transparent but thick and tough plastic that I found hard roots would pierce. So I have put in 2 or 3 of those wasted sheets from office. A4 sized. It should act effectively as per my guess. Yes, evaporation is considered plus those plants consuming some moisture.
Bev,
What are preformed ponds?
Here is my latest pic of the repaired pond.
Dinu - That is one fabulous and ingenius recyclying use!
We can put in all those unwanted plastic sheets, covers, beneath that. It will also be protective to the liner. I have also used oil sachets in small numbers, just as a cushion. We must not create more junk outside!
Okay. So it has a definite shape.
Right DINU, My bigger one is round and this small one is kidney shape. BEV
