Hi Everyone! I just picked some flowers today from the greenhouse and wanted to share them. I’m working on a big job today so I can’t take the time to label them right now, but I will post them again with labels a little later on if people are interested. Here are some of them:
The first one is a little plumie ring I picked yesterday. The center one is an unknown red that blooms about this time every year. I love its vibrant color. It turns into a darker red when it continues to bloom through the summer. The others are an unknown rainbow, Dwarf Singapore White, an unknown yellow/white, and Singapore. I have pictures of these separately below.
Christmas blooms
This one is ‘Flirtation,’ an Oz variety that is starting to bloom. It is just a small-to-medium white with a large yellow center at the point. It doesn’t have a fragrance that I can detect yet. I think this one is supposed to be a super large yellow. We’ll have to wait and see what it does this summer.
hi clare,
i hope that your project is going well. i'm trying to finish editing some weddings before christmas.
i love all of the blooms! it's amazing that you're getting such nice blooms right now. i must be doing something wrong! LOL i was supposed to get vera cruz rose this year just for the fragrance alone. i guess that on my spring list from fcn now.
dete
Claire, those are the most amazing flowers, I envy you greatly. Thanks for posting them and making me want to grow these beauties even more. This just makes it even harder to pick out the one I like the best.
Wow wee them is some smashingly fabulous blooms!!!
Clare is there a easy one that smells really good? The one I
got from qvc is in plumie heaven. :( I did not know about DG
then . I think I can do better now.
Kim
Hi Dete, Robyn, and Kim! Thanks for the lovely comments!
Dete, I'm sure you are doing nothing wrong! Most of these have been blooming since summer and are finishing except for Jack's Purple and my new seedling which just opened in the greenhouse. The ones that are blooming outside are very pale and small and are finishing now. The ones in the greenhouse are just happy because of the daytime high's, but it has been fairly cold and night here. I have some four year old seedings that are sending up inflo's for the first time ever, but they are too big to fit in the greenhouse so I just hope that they hold on to them until next summer so that I can see them bloom.
Robyn, it is hard for me to pick out which ones I like best also! They are like roses. Each one is beautiful in its own right.
Kim, there was a post here a while ago about the plumeria seller on QVC. If you run their name in GardenWatchdog, I think they have a terrible feedback rating. Don't give up though. They are all easy to grow given the right conditions. If you are just starting out, I would buy some grafted ones from Florida Colors next year in the spring. Here's a link in which I just recently listed some of my favorites for fragrance: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/797078/
Hi Clare!
What a lovely way to celebrate the holidays... with plumies blooming!
Wow! They are beautiful! Mine are sulking in the bathtub, waiting for spring to arrive again in Virginia! *LOL!*
Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Karen
Hi Karen! Thanks! It is good to hear from you again! Most of my plumies that are outside are sulking too. Merry Christmas to you and yours also:-)
Thanks for the link Clare!! Mmmm I can smelll them already lol;*)
Happy Holidays To All !!!!
Thanks Claire for the info and the link. Have a Merry Christmas and a smelly New Year (plummie smell that is)
Thanks, guys:-) Happy Holidays to you and yours also:-)
Glad I checked the forum so I didn't miss the picture of your red - it is beautiful.
The greenhouse is underway, so I'll be able to get my Brad's white(s) under cover - it's been coooooolllllld here at night! The one bigger plant I bought has an inflo that I hope will last until spring - it's a sunrise or sunset, can't remember which. lol
Happy New Year, Clare.
Kathleen
Hi Kathleen! Happy New Year to you also! It is very cold here lately too. In fact, it is predicted by AccuWeather to hit 32 tonight so I covered most of my plumies today and brought some in underneath the patio cover. I'm already seeing some damage on some that might be particularly cold sensitive. It was 33 last night. I hope your inflo stays on too and blooms for you in the spring. There is a good chance that it will if it has some protection.
Beautiful plumerias, Claire. I have always been a big fan of your plumeria rings. Absolutely gorgeous.
Thanks so much, Karma:-)
Loi Kratong is absolutely beautiful. I can almost smell it from here!

Very cool flower!
I really like that color. Is it typical that the colors for most plums are a little lighter or paler in cool weather?
Don't you guys agree that Clare needs to stop posting her blooms?!?!!?? I'm thoroughly envious right now! JK, Clare, keep posting!
Grren eyed monster is always rearing his head around here. I just love it. All I see everywhere right now is brown.
Yes, very typical. When plumerias lack energy from lack of heat or light, they will be smaller and more pale and some colors maybe missing, giving the appearance of a totally different flower. This often happens to indoor blooms and outdoor blooms during the winter and again in the cool spring. Heat, especially the heat of the summer, will bring out intense color. The color red in particular is brought out by heat. I forget the science of it, but it has something to do with that end of the light spectrum and molecules getting excited. So a picture of a flower of a cultivar taken in the spring might look completely different than a picture of a flower of the same cultivar taken in the heat of the summer. This is especially true of red cultivars.
LOL, Louise! There isn't much to post, I'm afraid! The same ones that I posted before are still blooming, but there are not many new ones developing at anything than a very slow pace.
You still have more blooming than I do. I think I have ZERO! Thanks for being a good sport!
Thanks Claire, I've learned a lot thanks to you.
Ditto what robyn said.
LOL! Thanks, guys. It is my pleasure to share what I've learned;-)
