I am moving and am going from an outside for plants to inside only... I have brugs but no Plumerias. So many of my friends told me to get one, two or more... but I have no idea where to start. I know this is not a good time of year, and the only place I have bought from before that sells cuttings is Plantranch... not great they give no name and no information... So here goes - where and when is the best place to start a few of these... I dont need names just colors, and I am not very picky... anyone have some good leads I can look into?
Ok - so I have the bug...
Will do - I know it is not the time but just smelled my first and wow...
mitch - i don't understand this, "am going from an outside for plants to inside only." are you saying that you only want to grow plants inside?
Going to have to - selling this place and going to appartment life for awhile at least. I used to have inside plants... but over time I took care of them less and less and now I just have my Brugs and a few Ivies.
i guess you can do it if you have lights. however, i don't think it will be worth it unless you have a good light set-up. most apartments have patios don't they?
That they do - and the appartment will have lots of windows. I already have grow lights for my Brugs so grow lights will really not be a big deal.
sweet!
I hope... I have a few pot plants for the porch ready - my best Iris and Dls.. and a few other things I thought might take it... some Lily bulbs for pots too...
Giving your growing situation, I would stick with the dwarves for now while you're in an apartment. I agree with Hetty not to do anything until spring. Most reputable places won't ship this time of year. You would do fine with regular ones for a few years anyway, but the nondwarf ones get big and heavy before you know it. I would recommend buying a rooted or grafted Dwarf Singapore Pink and Dwarf Singapore White to start with. The Mel Pa Bowen is a dwarf yellow, I believe, which would be good for you too. As Dete said, you may need supplemental light in your situation to see blooms.
Thank you - will start looking.
Mitch, I don't know if I mentioned this to you or not, but most of my collection comes from Florida Colors Nursery, and they have all of those that I mentioned. I would buy grafted ones to start with. The dwarves can be especially hard to root because of their slow growth habit so buying grafted ones is the way to go with them.

If you call them in the spring and talk to Carol or Luc, they are both very nice and will give you some suggestions if you ask them.
Thank you - will give them a call, and grafted. Do you have trouble with the parent rootstock wanting to takeover?
Never;-) The rootstocks never seem to sprout branches once there is a solid union. I do a lot of grafting myself, and the only time that the root stock will start to send up a branch is when the union is failing. Grafted plumerias seem to make the strongest trees.
great! with my roses I and fruit trees they always tried to come up from the roots.
Hey Mitch I' m glad to see I"m not the only one with the "bug" LOL
I've already looked through some of the links Clare has at the top of the forum and wow so many colors.
I plan on using my back room for plants so I have alot of room to set things up and then move them outside for the summer months when it is warm enough for them.
Dutchlady1 and I have already talked some about them
I just wish I could start now they are all soo pretty
Right - they are stunning... Dont tell Josephine but I am diving head first into Tropicals again, it was my thing back in the studying days but a baby and a new home and roses and natives took over.
Tell who??????...hehehe I know nothing
I have always loved the look of the tropicals and had tried growing a gardenia back in Illinois but at the time my X got big into turning the heat way down at night so it didn't' make it.
But now that I am in Texas and things are different I figure why not try again.
That is it - who?
I lived for a time in Mexico, Costa Rica, and South Africa among others so I am very used to the stunning wonder the tropics can really be.
hehehehe see I know how to play the game lol
I've never lived in places like those but someday maybe in another life I will get to *S*
They are stunning.... really stunning. The poverty level is the hard part to deal with.
Yeah I can only imagine that part other then what my folks have told em aobut when they come back from being down in Mission TX and go into Mexico to buy stuff.
That is huge - love it.
yeah it's 3 ft and I was expecting something more on the smaller size never dreamed this big already.
How? Where? tell me please....
I got it from http://naturalselections.safeshopper.com/89/557.htm?297
before I had even talked to Dutchlady1...but I am going to save up and get with her too for a couple more ...hehehe
wow - so much to learn on here.
yeah so much to learn all over on tropics not to mention everything on DG I need to find a way to make it talking then save it to a recorder and put ear plugs in at night and sleep listening to it all ...LOL then maybe I would retain it all to
