BAM! Overnight!!!

North West, OH(Zone 5b)

Well actually over-day, but it's pretty much the same concept. I can't believe how quickly they appeared! I readily admit that I examine my cuttings every day (and that in itself is a big fat lie 'cause I look at them at least 1/2 dozen times a day) and this morning was no exception. I checked everybody's moisture level and looked at the leaves for any signs of malcontention. Everything was status quo so I toddled off to work for 8 hours of bliss and joy. *cough* *cough.

That was a mere 10 hours ago and in the time my Dr. Seuss developed 3 teeny-tiny-invisible-to-any-one-other-than-me buds!! That's crazy! And even crazier is that I think her sister might be starting too! (however those buds are still too teeny-tiny-to-be-visible-even-to-me buds). Both cuttings were gifts and I assume they came from the same mother plant. Is that likely to happen? That 2 seperate cuttings from the same plant would start producing buds on the exact same day? I am flipping out here.

I wonder how many of you are rolling your eyes and how many of you are out-right laughing while reading this post. I know most of you have seen this dozens if not hundreds of times,......but I'll bet you still remember it. I bet you remember the thrill of seeing your first buds (oh how I hope they make it so I can see my first BLOOMS!) I suppose it's something you never forget, not unlike your first car, or your first kiss your first............... LOL!

Isn't that something? My entire brug garden is on the same schedule. They pretty much all start setting buds at the same time. If you send a cutting to a buddy, your plant and their plant will probably be in bloom at the same time.

It is definitely wild Gordo! As fast as they came on Dr. #1 I should know by tomorrow if the too teeny-tiny-to-be-visible-even-to-me buds really do exist on #2. I'm so excited that I'm tempted to boil water and put the father out in the hallway to pace, but I guess if it's come this far on it's own it doesn't need me meddling now.

How thrilling!! Yes I do remember my first teensy bud...worried it til it fell off.:~)...but then they just began to show up!! Congrats to you and your lil babies.

Congrats, I know what you are going thru. My Monster White has itty bitty buds and now I am terrified I will overwater, underwater, break them off by looking, something will knock the whole plant over, will lose heat, and on and on and on.....wish it would just bloom so I wouldn't be so crazy.

Two at once! I will have to check my other Moster White because they were started at the same time.

How exciting!

Keep us posted, Jane. I'd love to see some pics. I see you have the creative writing juices flowing. I love that!

Pictures? Did somebody say pictures? Oh boy oh boy!

I just tiptoed through the maternity ward to check on the sleeping children and I'll be darned if I didn't just happened to have my camara with me. ;-) I promise won't do this to you on a daily basis, but I do in fact have a picture of Seussie just as she's starting to "show" and I would be most tickled to share it with you. My camara battery went dead after uploading just one pic, but you can at least see the larger bud if not the 2 smaller ones.

Thanks for sharing my excitement with me. I can already see the vacant smiles and the forced enthusiasm when I tell my buddies at work about this. LOL!

(Seussie II might have been crying wolf. I should know tonight if she does indeed have some blooms coming on or if they are just new leaves unfurling.)

Birmingham, AL(Zone 7b)

NO WAY LA!! You didn't tell me!! That is not fair. Are you fertilizing or what. You had better call me when you get back in town. I feel slighted, but my best DG friend!! :^P

North West, OH(Zone 5b)

Hey! My big (well bigger than the other 2) bud fell off!

I am bumming big time here. Any ideas what might have caused it? I sure would like to save the other ones if possible. :-(

I had to go out of town for a couple of days and they got a little dryer than usual. Might that have been the culprit?

P.S. Happy Holidays one and all!

Victoria, BC(Zone 8a)

I think it's mostly due to the fact that it's winter. I'm sure it will perk up in the spring!

North West, OH(Zone 5b)

What a bummer. :(

I WILL try to be patient. I WILL try to be patient..... (I feel a little like Natalie Wood in Miracle on 34th Street) .....I DO believe in Santa Claus, I DO believe in Santa Claus.............

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Lala, both of those will help! LOL Bud drop is common, there could have been a number of reasons.. if they got real dry, that may have been a contributing factor, but who knows.. it happens..
What are their conditions.. Light? temp? Where are they? Just curious..

North West, OH(Zone 5b)

Hiya ZZ,

I've still not gotten a timer so they reside about 2-3" under lights 24/7 . Unfortunately my only available space right now is next to a wall with a heating register. I do not have forced air but still they get drier quicker because of the location. I water them about every 3rd day and mist them about once a week and I usally keep the temp between 68 and 70°.

I guess I will content myself with "bud drop is common" and try not to make myself crazy(er). It was highly disappointing though. I felt a bit like a kid whose toy broke 2 days after Christmas, LOL.

Can I ask one more thing? How often do they bud/bloom? I'm sure they all have their own schedules, but speaking in generalities. If I had buds now, how long might I expect it to take before it happens again? I think I'm wishing for 2 Christmases. ;-P

(I saw your post about your cloth that came up missing and I do understand your sadness. I was going to share my little tale about our town's dismantled Christmas display but decided against it. Oops.)
