Hi all,
I don't really have a good link for finding out reverse information -- I have a plant that plant files says is a good host for "Birds bees and butterflies" and am trying to find out if it's butterflies, then if it's a host or a nectar plant.
Pimpinella anisum would this be for Anise Swallowtail caterpillars?
I tried Googling, but came up with a lot of links where the 2 things were each mentioned, but not in relation to one another. Another link had 'No' for host or nectar of anything, including bees.
Sheesh!
Thanks,
Suzy
Quick Question about Pimpinella anisum/Anise
Hi Suzy....since it's in the Umbelliferae family, I would think it would be host for the Black and Anise SWT cats. Did you get some?
Yes, I got some, but I didn't want to. :))
I am hosting a Exchange/Swap/.Seed Coop sort of thing over in the Cottage Garden forum, and one of the participants requested Anise. I had no intention of getting any, but at the very end of the order, the tail end, I had almost enough money left to spend to buy a single little pack, so I looked over my list and it looked like I could get a lot of seeds for not much money, and I bought it. The participlants who wanted (and are expecting) flowers may not be too happy, so I wanted to sort of "sell" it to them. LOL! Butterflies will do the trick, I think, but I didn't want to out and out LIE.
Thanks for the information -- that birds, bees and butterflies category is a little vague, isn't it?
Somehow when I saw Anise, I immediately thought Anise Swallowtail, but there is a dearth of information out there if it is indeed a host plant!
Suzy
LOL, it will be interesting to see if the plant serves as a host and draws the STs in, let us know!
What birds, bees and butterflies category? On DG?
Roxanne
Yeah, on the description of the plant-- toward the bottom. It seems to me that they should divide those catagoies up. The Butterflies love the Garlic Chives, but sometimes the bees run them off; likewise, there are a lot of plants for the birds, but a lot of birds eat butterflies and caterpillars, so you wouldn't want to plant more of those! LOL
