Crepe Myrtle, Crape Myrtle 'Rosey Carpet' (Lagerstroemia indica)
Hi, geneivy. this looks like a lovely miniature-type crepe myrtle and your photo of it is great. Thanks for sharing it. The blooms in the photo appear to be more lavender than rosey in color. This is probably due to the photo having some reflected blue light. I put the photo in my graphics program and decreased the amount of blue and the blooms look a little more rosey. Only you know how rosey they are. I am interested in ordering one of them. I already have a miniature one that blooms lavender so I want a different color.
Is this part correct?
Height:
under 6 in. (15 cm)
6-12 in. (15-30 cm)
Hi there htop & misty. Misty, I see you on the seed RR with distant all the time. I used to participate, was on the newby RR and then things got hectic and I opted out. Yep, they will go 6" to 8" and spread 3 to 4 feet. Virtually a ground cover until they go dormant and loose their leaves, then they look like an untidy pile of brush. Supposed to be root hardy in zone 6 but I wouldn't bet my life on it.
Htop, that is quite a complement coming from the person who posted half the pictures on plant files
geneivy, I have posted quite a few, but I don't think I have posted over half of' em. :o) 'Rosey' sure looks great in the container. I just brought my other dwarf one in because the temperture is at 39.5 °F / 4 °C right now and will be going down a lot more. I'm always afraid that it will freeze because its in a relatively small container and rootbound. It is already damaged because my good friend didn't notice it and did not water it when I was on vacarion.
htop; Why does your signature block say 1 hour later than mine. San Antonio is the same as me?? & what happened to the rest of my post. I got pretty long winded about my cannon A630, graffic programs, possibly seeing you when we go to SA on business, the other mini cultivar by Bob Hambuchen, etc, etc, Gene
The reason I had asked is because it looks much taller than 6-12 inches.
We have Tuscarora and Regal Red planted around our property that I have high hopes will make it! We have some neighbors that have some dwarf varieties that have survived many, many years, but they are much taller than this one here.
If I was to have one this small, would it survive in a larger container if put in an unheated/unattached garage? It got down into the teens last night, so I am hoping everything has made it through!
Misty, it is in a tall 2 gallon pot. The cane bottom has been removed from the chair, and a board placed on the rungs of the chair to support the pot. I thought the effect looked good. I will put your name on my list for a cutting come spring and you can try it. All the books say is "root hardy to zone 6 " Gene
It looks GREAT the way you have it potted! I absolutely fell in love with ours when they started to bloom, the deep pink and pink/purple is amazing! Our tags read that they are hardy down to 0º, and most of what I read on the net, so I am hoping since we have 11 of them planted! They have boxes made of landscaping timbers and mulch, with some ground cover planted in with them.
I would absolutely LOVE a cutting to try, but I don't know that I would chance it outside since it is so beautiful!
Gene, I have no idea why the time is 1 hour later than mine. That is really strange being as you live right up 35 from me. You might want to click on "My Tools at the top of the page. Then, click on "Preferences". Next, under "What timezone are you in?" Pull down to and select "UTC-6". See if this fixes the problem. Let me know if it doesn't.
In the past, I have had either my whole post or part of it "disappear". Because I use my own method to type, I am very slow at it. A lot of times when the post that disappearted was long and detailed, I just didn't retype it. Here's a thread that discusses the phenomenon:

It would be nice to get together sometime after the holidays.
htop, after looking at some of the rules, I decided it was because my post got way off topic and was edited by someone. I thought it was you doing the editing??? being as you are a "UBER". I did inquire if you knew how I could get lessons on the cannon A630 without breaking my bank account.
I don't think anyone edited it. I have seen a lot of threads go way off topic. I do not have the authority to edit threads. The Uber designation just means I have added a lot of photos, filled in a lot of plant details, etc. I do not know where you could lessons on the Cannon A630. Maybe someone in the Photograhy Forum could give you assistance.

You can also do a search on the internet for Cannon A630 users. Hopefully, you can find sites where Cannon A630 users ask for assistance and/or discuss how to use the camera.
