Getting new shelving

South, TX

I am looking for some pretty shelves for plants for the sunroom hopefully tomorrow. I hope we can find one. Hubby and I both may be getting a cold. That or bad allergies.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Lowes and Sam's are where i bought my chrome 5 shelf sets. They are nice and run about 100.00. You can get the shop light fixtures at Walmart and also can get the full spectrum lights at Walmart for only 6.50. I think the fixtures are 8.00.

The first few sets I put up I didn't know any better and bought the shop fixtures with the hoods at Lowes and also got the lights there. They were much more expensive and no more attractive than the ones at Walmart.

The other 4 sets I have came from the Container Store in Houston. Unfortunately you would have to get to San Antonio for a store. They are black or chrome (I got black) but they are almost twice the cost of the ones at Lowe's and Sam's.

I just snapped a couple of pics to show you the difference. I had to use a flash as the gro lights are off for the night. The chrome stand has the shop lights from Lowes and they have started to rust (and were more expensive than the white ones at Walmart)

The second picture is the top of the black shelves i got in Houston at the Container store.
If you find something new, Sally............let us know........

The Container Store stands you put together. You can make them any height or any width and you buy the shelves separately for whatever you want to put together...........I used the White Walmart fixtures because they last better than the chrome ones.......as far as rust goes..

I have all the plants growing with sunlight so I am looking for decorative shelves that work with the sunroom. Gold/tan paint, saltillo tiles and dark wicker. Here is one area I have. I have orchids too.

This is the new chest I have in the sunroom. I keep my little bird's toys in it.

Sally, if you want gro lights there is not much available as far as 'beauty' goes. If you don't need gro lights, you could alway buy a good looking Baker's Rack from a furniture store or Smith and Hawkins (once again a major city).

Copper or brass often trim the Baker's Racks that you could buy at a good furniture store . Browning Bros. used to have them but they have gone out of business. The other good furniture store in Corpus Christi starts with a lady's name beginning with a C and is located on (I think) either Alameda or Staples right near Lamar Park (Doddridge but closer to town than Doddridge by about a block)
Good luck........I wished you and I lived in a city when it comes to shopping *lol*

I just thought of something i saw at Gill's Nursery on Airline. They had several Baker's racks in their gift shop several months ago. You might try a call and find out. Another possibility might be The Bombay shop in the S.Padre Staple's Mall. They carry baker's racks in Houston.

South, TX

We found two REALLY nice baker's racks at Hobby Lobby. I will take photos soon!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I almost said Hobby Lobby when I thought of The Bombay shop.........good! GEt your camera ready *lol*

(Zone 1)

I have heard folks talk about Hobby Lobby. Oh how I wish we had them here in Florida!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

They are amazing places, Lin. I have a trunk I keep all my seeds, etc. in. It is so cute and the size of a regular trunk all for the lovely price of 40.00 on sale at Hobby Lobby. There isn't much you can't find at Hobby Lobby in the way of crafts, picture framing, gifts, artificial flowers, etc........including furniture.

Just googled and found out there is one that just opened in St. Augustine in October! St. Augustine is about 45 minutes - 1 hour north of me! Next time we are up that way I will have to check it out! I sure wish they had an on line store!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Tell your hubby to go find something to do while you explore Hobby Lobby. It will take you a long time to look and you will find bargain after bargain. They are giant stores in square feet!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I was so happy to see these bakers racks. There were several kinds! I just wanted an old world look. I will get pics tomorrow. I have a COLD, no fun.

My Parrotlets name is Chipper, she is a little girl.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Bummer that you have a cold! Better not get out in the morning for church. It is going to be a bit nippy and maybe make you feel worse.

What is a Parrotlet?
I will get the answer in the morning as I am going to bed.......she is a beautiful color.

South, TX

No, not going out tomorrow. This cold didn't last long for my hubby, so hope I am better soon.

They are Parrots that are 4 1/2 inches tall. Tiny and precious. Not loud like other parrots. They take lots of care, large cage, tons of toys, a very good diet. I cook for my parrot and doggie. You would not believe her cage/toys... I am on Parrot and Shih Tzu forums too.

Lin- I love St Augustine! My husband and I visited there a couple years ago! Beautiful city. We stayed at the Casa Monica Hotel. it was such a nice trip. The one and only time I've ever been to FLorida. But it was cold when we went-Feb.

Hobby Lobby is wonderful too! I like to go late summer. They usually have all kinds of plant stands etc. on clearance at that time. Some times 75% off!

Oh, I love little miss chipper! She is a cutie! Nice to know they are not loud like larger birds. My husband had an Indian Ring Neck Parrot years ago and that bird hated me ... would bite me any chance he got - he was really attached to my husband! That was one LOUD bird! He screeched all day long ... wanting out of his cage, but the only time he could be out was when hubby was home to deal with him. We finally gave him to a lady who took in rescue birds. She had a female ring neck and wanted a mate for her so it worked out just great! Our bird was about 10 or 11 so she thought he might be too old to begin breeding but they didn't have any problems at all! We used to stop in and visit once in awhile when we were headed to Orlando and the two birds were so happy together, ended up having a few clutches and babies that were so cute! I don't think I ever want another bird if it is a loud squaky sort. I just don't have the time for it. We went down to Lauderdale to my sisters for Thanksgiving and her next door neighbor has a Beautiful little bird called a Caique (pronounced "kike") ... very quiet and calm bird and gorgeous colors!

Here's a picture of him ... his name is "Mango"

edited to correct the birds name ... at first I said it was Kiwi - it is Mango! I knew it was some kind of fruit. LOL. Isn't he the prettiest thing?

Here's a pic from the front. She said she needed to trim his beak - it was really growing long and she hadn't gotten to it yet. He was so gentle and just wanted to be on someone's shoulder or finger:

Diane: Yes, St. Augustine is a wonderful city! We used to go up there every weekend ... would take our bicycles on the back of the car, check into a motel and either bike or walk around the ancient city. I also love the beaches up there ... Ponte Vedra is beautiful ... quiet and peaceful. At least it was 20 years ago! We haven't been up there in awhile. Even though it's so close. Sorta like the Orlando area and all the theme parks. Been there, done that sorta thing! I hate crowds and traffic. I'm hoping to get up to St. Augustine though during the holidays ... it is so Beautiful at night with every single building, tree and post all lit up with the little white lights.

hmmm ... maybe I can talk hubby into going up for lunch one day, going by Hobby Lobby and then staying to see the lights!

Sounds like a plan to me Lin!

I know about Caiques, they are so neat. Most people pronounce it as the french, (Ky- EEK) Cute birds! We adore Chipper.

Awww! How cute!

Here is one of my new Baker's racks. The other one is on the other side of the room. Also has a table next to it with orchids. Looks simular to this just has the rack on the left side. The new Baker's racks work great for the space and the sunroom decor. Now we have more room for plants. I don't want to have tons of plants in there, but I wanted some more room.

Sally, you got a winner in that Baker's rack. It is wonderful and I love plants everywhere in my house! So glad it warmed up today just so i could water where I needed to on the porch and then we have tonight one more time!

Sunshine ahead this week though.

If I had a dog it would be a Shi Tzu or a Bijon. They are too cute.
Let's face it, if you love small animals, they are all precious!

Here is the other side of the sun room. The other rack, mostly orchids on this side. Now we have room for more.
