Chicken safe salt for stairs?????

My front stairs are icing up and I need to de-ice, is there such a thing as chicken safe de-icer? Regular salt? Pet safe? My marans LOVE to hang out on the porch during the day.

try using sand or cat litter, not salt...

I use sand/dirt too.
