I planted a lot of seeds and now have this particular begonia. The only information I can find is that she is a shrub like begonia with white flowers and a heavy fragrance.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how many to put in a 6, 8 or 10" bulb pan? It did say to grow her on the dry side.
Has anyone grown Begonia venosa?
Gessie, it looks like you did a great job growing those from seed. I lost my first one this spring but replaced it with one I got while I was in LA (both actually came from Kartuz). My second one is blooming right now but the scent is very faint so either I have very poor sense of smell or the aroma is overrated. I have no idea on how many to plant in a pot - I would keep it in a small pot for a while until they become root bound. Succulent begonias seem harder to keep alive for me due to my heavy hand in watering.
thanks so much for your advice.
Since it is winter time here, I may keep under light until our cold weather is over.......
So excited someone has grown these.
I am going to order all kinds of begonia seeds (plus begoniadude sent me a lot of seed from The Begonia Society that I haven't started yet)
I am really happy that you told me to keep them root bound for awhile. When I read the 'shrub like' I started thinking in terms of bigger pots.............I may even grow them as individuals in their own little pots for a while.......
I ordered mainly gesneriads from this man in Brazil and have to share one that is already getting ready to bloom. I get more excited about seeds and leaves than anything else.
This is a chirita tamiana. Look closely at her unusual bud getting ready to open.
gessiegail were do you get your Begonia seed im having a dival of a time finding them.
I got mine from Mauro from Brazil. He has great seeds. I am sure the Begonia society has many but I don't want to join another club just to get seeds.

the are 3.00 a package and you need to share with someone as their are so many seeds.
My begonias are so big now, I need to get them out on my porch and see if they will bloom for me.
Gessie, Love the Chirita, pretty little plants. Thanks for the link to another
source for Begonia seeds. He might have something different than is
offered by the Beg society.
You did a good job with the venosa seeds.
I just love Mauro!!!
I have e-mailed the Brazilian befoer and never got him to respond to me. What is your secret?
Someone just told me that she emailed him and he said the packets are 3 Euro.........and I told her that I paid 3 dollars a packet last year.........what is the exchange? Does anyone know? I also heard that the Gesneriad Society has new seeds and are more viable now. (of course I don't think that is begonia seeds)
