Thought I'd share some pictures of my 'Cherry Baby' oncidium. We've got picture phones and teleconferencing.......how about cyber scents?

Cool! Thanks for showing us fauna, I was wondering what they looked like, when you mentioned them elsewhere. I love the yellow oncidiums, esp the larger one that comes out of Hawaii (have only seen the smaller one come out of thailand), but I have never known them to have a scent. I don't know much about orchids-but is that a true oncidium? The petals look much different than the oncidiums that I know, and as you say-there is a fragrance. It looks like a oncidium crossed with something like a odontoglossum (sp)?

Hey Tiger. I confess I know little about orchids. I do know that there are fragrant vandas, too, but most are not fragrant. I went to the website of the nursery where I got the Cherry Baby, and they do not have a picture gallery or anything. That's all I know!

Those boogers!! lol I'll go google it and see-its a beautiful orchid, and you are doing much better with it than I ever would.

ok, I'm back-there sure are alot of oncidiums out there! lol There seems to be one that is called Sharry Baby 'sweet fragrance that looks very similiar to yours would you say this is it? http://www.florafest.com.au/OA.Onc.SharrBab.SweetFrag.html
here it is again- http://www.agristarts4.com/Tech%20Sheets/Oncidium%20Sharry%20Baby.htm
both the same, but they look a bit different-what do you think?

I saw a few references to Cherry Baby, but more for Sharry Baby...you would think that they would not pick such close names! All I could get was that Sharry Baby smelled like chocolate, easy to grow and bloomed profusely throughout the year....and that I need one!
Does yours smell like chocolate? Also there are alot of oncidiums that are fragrant.
thanks for posting this-another plant to get!! lol

Awwe, that's kind of you. Its really credit to the grower, though. The dendrobium beside it isn't the happiest. I think some orchids like a bit of real soil in the pot to hold water better depending on the situation they are in.

As tigerlily pointed out, the correct name of this plant is Oncidium Sharry Baby. I always liked the fragrance although it can be overpowering at times.

What a beautiful specimen you have, fauna4flora! :-)

ooooooooo,,, I want some scratch and sniff on this cold winter night. My orchids are in the greenhouse with a heater keeping them cozy.. Will have to work extra to pay the electric bill. My mom grows them in an oak tree and under her patio in central Florida. Here is Lemon Chiffon..sighhhhh

Very nice, EFGeorgia. How large is your greenhouse?

Lizella, GA(Zone 8a)

welll, it keeps expanding.. I think about 30ft. long now.... I used pvc pipe and cattle wire with heavy plastic over it. And now a second layer of a cover we had bought to cover the motor home.. we live in the woods, so noone can see but me.. I will see how orchids do here this year and may give up on them...

Yes it is Oncidium 'Sharry Baby'. A great orchid, easy to grow and incredibly fragrant blossoms.
