A previous owner left a lot of bulbs in my yard that I'd like to both sell and trade. At the risk of sounding like a total idiot, how do I prepare them - do I pot all of them (there are hundreds) or dig them and let them dry? We've not had our first freeze (Fort Worth area), so there is a lot of foliage showing. I'm assuming it would be OK to pot them in this condition, but that's not the way to sell or trade them, right?
how-to - bulbs for sale or trade?
I would be happy to trade you in the spring for some of your bulbs, if you are willing to wait until spring arrives here in Wisc.
What are you interested in?

polyxenes, you have d-mail
What are they? They're lovely, remind me of a cross between a Lycoris and a Crinum.
They look like these...love them

some people do sell plants in pots it just costs more to ship them, usually they wash and ship bareroot
As Tropi says, bareroot would be cheaper/more convenient for all parties involved.
Were you planning to lift your bulbs now? Depending on what kinds you have, I'm wondering about timing. I don't have experience lifting bulbs and the right time to do it, but I'm sure somebody here will come along with some wisdom along those lines.
I too think they are oxblood lilies. I would be very interested in them, but I don't know anything about lifting and transporting them. Hopefully someone will come along and let us know the best time for that.
I'm curious, why do you want to get rid of them? They are so pretty.
They are oxbloods, a previous homeowner had planted them everywhere in the back yard. I'm working on eliminating the lawn, so I dug & moved all the bulbs as they bloomed. I brought tons of plants from my old house and I'm running out of room.
Well, I would love to trade or have you send them for postage+. I would hate for them to just die after being pulled up :(
I have some hellebores and some daylily fans for sure. I'd have to look around and see what else I have available.
Let me know.
Thank you all for your responses, however I'm not quite ready to trade or sell. When I moved the bulbs I was also moving into the house, and could not take the time to separate red from pink. This last fall I was again busy and could not devote time to separating them.
No matter what, next fall (2008) I'll separate them and will then know what I do & do not have. I'll let you all know.
Until then, have a very Merry Christmas!
