should these be perennial or annual on 8b/9a?
ricinus communis (castor bean) questions
I'll let you know in the spring if mine come back up. LOL
Lavina
sounds good
Do you need any seeds?
Lavina
From what I was reading in the Texas forum, and some links they gave me here, they should be perennials in your zone, DieHard. It's going to be iffy in mine, but that's ok with me.
Trent, these are definately perennial in Bluffton.
LavinaMae, how long will the seeds be viable? I have some that are about a year old and I don't know if they're still good.

I was told about 3 years. If kept dry.
Lavina
thanks lavina, but i have a few seeds... unless you have the seeds of that giant strain. if y'all are going by my "9a", the only reason i have that is because we have more 9a winters than 8b, although technically i am 8b
Lavina, ...lol...does that mean you have extra seeds? I'm sure I've got something I could send you. I'm thinking a bunch of castor beans would help cover chain link pretty nicely :)
OJ where have you been? Sure I can send some seeds to you.
I am home for a few weeks them back to the coast.
How many seeds you need?
Diehard your 9a. It would be safe to stick to 8b but in the last 16 years I can only remember one time the temp. got down to 19-20. There usual is a week or two around 25 and there have been winters where I doubt we went under 32. A lot has to do with when the cold comes and how close you are to a body of water. The spring is the best time for a freeze because the water temps can get into the 40's. Usually the 50's but I think I remember the may river at 48 degrees one time. I don't really keep track of what's going on temp wise but that's the best I can come up with.
ok thx for clarifying that
Lavina, have been up to no good..lol... just what you could spare on the seeds, let me know what you need and thank you so very much. I always think of Harlow for whatever reason when I think of y'all's place at the beach just cause I still need to find a map :)
Tropicana
Can't remember how far we are from there but did find out a girl who worked with me was also from Harlow, I have a Christmas party with the gals today and will try and find out her name as her Mom still has a placethere she is from another unit in the bldg.
We went to Aurora and Blount's Creek last Saturday they over to Goose Creek wildlife Marina. Talking about desolate places, and on the coast too. I was so surprised.
Will get seeds out to you this week.
Still can't find veggie hot dog and went to fresh market and they said they stay sold out.
Lavina
One of my friend's parents lived in Harlow...talk about middle of nowhere, pretty place though. Don't know if you've ever been down east to Otway, Arapaho, etc...NC is so beautiful :)
These days you can actually get veggie dogs at most grocery stores (Morningstar Farms makes good ones), they're in the frozen foods usually with breakfast stuff. LOL, there's veggie burgers, bacon, chicken, sausage...etc, I know Ed would just love it :)
And really thanks for the seeds! let me know what to send you or bring to the next RU
We are 3 miles from Araphoe and I love it. Love Balengia's food market.LOL
Lavina
Well now I know where you're talking about...wow, it must be kind of isolated, I bet you have to drive awhile for groceries, etc. (Balengias?) It has been a very long time since I've been down that way though. We're going home for Christmas for a couple of days anyway. I want to take Trinity to look at the Christmas lights in Harker's Island...we always did that growing up :)
