Trilobo has flower pods

Port Saint Lucie, FL(Zone 9b)

I bought a P. trilobo in September. It was about 4 feet tall at the time when I took it out of the pot and put it in the ground. By beginning of November it was about 5 feet and now it is 10 feet. I didn;t think there was any way of getting a bloom for at least another year.
Yesterday hubby found the little pods. Does this take forever to bloom after you see this? Some are the size of a handball and the others are smaller. There are about 30 of them now on the trellis.

it better "Pop" before next Friday. We are going out of town for a week. I hope we don;t miss the show!!

Chris, the pod will get really really large but will appear to just stop growing. What's happening is that the bracts actually grow to a maximum long before the bud does. Anyhow, the bud will continue to grow inside for another week or two before you will actually see it push out the end of the bracts and then it should bloom within a few day's. hope this helps.

WOW...woderfulll... great flower...
and so fast for so many buds...sounds great... I'm excited now...
Isaw it for sale... but they were out of stock of shipping sized ones last week...So I ordered it anyway.. overnight with a heat packing.. so I'll be outthe door with it as soon as it is ready..
I'm readying things for spring now.. that will help the winter to seem like it will eventually go.
There's 1/2 a full moon now...and come the full moon... on the 23 rd... the
SUN WILL AGAIN RETURN....
Thanks for the photo...beautiful...and perfect for the holidays...

Gordon, who did you order it from?
Mark

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

I ordered from Logees...
www.logees.com
they always have some interesting things ..and in midwinter I always make a trip up there..only 3-3 1/2 hours.. and the greenhouses are like the tropics... smells you'd not find in the jungles... 30' tall lemons blooming... flowers everywhere.... although the parking lot is a sheet of ice... it's hot and steamy inside...aquick trip...considering going to a place like that would be hundreds of dollars and take a day to get there... and here you get in for free and you get achance to take the plants home with you.. I preordered this plant from them online... to ship overnight soon.. Gordon

Anyone help with this one? The pruple speckles are causing the buds on the end of this plant to not open all the way. the petals won't peel back to expose the full flower. Should I just cut off until speckles gone??

I wish I could be of more help. Maybe Gordo will come along, she knows so much about Passies.

Is the whole plant like that or just a part of it?

I tried to Google search this, but couldn't locate a similar pic of this type of problem.
If it were me, I would cut that part off incase it is being caused by a pest, but that's me and I am not an expert.

You may be able to take it to county ag ext office and see what they say. Or at least E-mail them a picture.

Chris
I would think that it is probably related to the frost that you had a coulple of weeks back. It looks similar to the type of damage we see quite often up here after a cold snap. Usually affecting the growing tips. I would just cut it off at the node below where the damage is and in a few days you'll see new growth that should be normal.

Okeedokee jim thanks!!! Is this the Jim that I think it is?? That frost was a doosy and this was the only results. I did forget about that when i noticed the funky color.

Which Jim are you thinking of?

San Diego, CA

Chris, what's the latest on your Triloba? I wasn't quite sure what you meant about what was happening with it. Does it look healthy? Is it just that the buds aren't quite opening?
Mark

Port Saint Lucie, FL(Zone 9b)

Jim from Passiflora Society meeting this past Sept? There were so many of us there that just checking.

Mark, I did cut off that piece. It looked shriveled and an interesting shade of purple. The buds on it were all shriveled and so tight that the buds couldn't open all the way. The bugger is so big now I am going to cut a bunch off and try to root them. We are putting in a fence soon and hubby wants more of this one on the chain link fence. It has been my power grower.

Yes, same Jim. How's the plant doing now, does the new growth look okay?

Port Saint Lucie, FL(Zone 9b)

Slow new growth Jim but everything does look well. I took a bunch of cuttings off it and they are in the greenhouse now on the heat mat. The bugger grew sooooooo quick and hubby loves this one so I thought I better try to start more. I really don;t do well with cuttings but since she is so big, thought it couldn't hurt to try. OHH MY!! I forgot to show hubby, it has a fruit!!! I better wake him up to tell him!

Does trilobo fruit on its own or is this a possible cross?

Port Saint Lucie, FL(Zone 9b)

Okay, not does it have fruit now, and a big one at that, but I have since found 5 of them!!! SOme smaller than others but 5 nonetheless.
