Thank you Aloha Hoya for offering to try and ID some of my unknown's for me. I decided to start a new thread so as not to take up a lot of space on Roybe's thread.
I have about 8 separate photo's here and hopefully some of these will look familiar to you all. I know it isn't easy to ID by leaf alone and unfortunately I have no blooms at this time. But, maybe I can put a label on them, saying: ? possible ______. Sure appreciate y'all taking the time to look anyway.
Ok here's the first photo, two plants that look very similar one with lighter green leaves than the other.
Hoping for some possible ID's.
OK Lin, I'm going to take a stab at one but I am NOT positive.
#2 looks like Hoya Obscura to me
Wait for the experts though *lol*
VERY pretty hoyas by the way ;)
hmmm ... I don't think it's Obscura. I look at the pic's of that on in PF and it looks a bit different to me. But, I have no clue.
Ok, well the only one I'm 100% POSITIVE about is #2, which is H. obscura.
Here are my guesses for the others:
1. H. australis
2. H. obscura (definitely)
3. H. lacunosa
4. H. imperialis (this is also a definite, but I think their is an 'sp.' or 'var' after it that starts with an "R" ( I remember Carol Id'ing this one in Gail's post, but I can't remember the exact name - and I'm thinking these are the same plants that she posted for ID's). Maybe it's H. imperialis var. Rauchi?? Could be wrong about the var. part, but I'm sure Carol will come along and verify.
5. H. carnosa?
6. The first looks like one of the variegated compact carnosas, like H. carnosa 'Holliana' or something. The second looks like H. australis
7. H. carnosa 'Krimson Queen' and H. australis
Gabi
Gaby, Kim and Christine...RIGHT ON!!!!
The imperialis looks like it is the var. Rauchii (deep burgundy blooms).. Very nice looking plants, all of them!! The H. australis is either ssp. australis or ssp. tenuipes...I would guess the latter...but it really doesn't matter (does it?). The blooms are alike and they have, for me, a lovely fragrance. Looks like you are growing them really well!!!
Carol
HUGE Thanks, Ladies! I really appreciate your help! I would never have been able to ID them from looking at photo's in Plant Files ... I am just not good unless I have a close up side by side and sometimes then I'm even way off! LOL.
So, I have 3 Australis? Photo's 1, 6 & 7? I will be eager to see if they are all the same ssp! Are the blooms different?
Oh, now I can't wait to hopefully some day get blooms on the Imperialis with burgundy blooms! That's the one I didn't even think was a Hoya ... so different looking with the growth habit and wider, longer leaves. It's the first hoya I've had with that upright growth. I need to get some trellises for some of them. All the ones I have are in hanging baskets or little pots like those in the above photos. My oldest Hoya and the only one I ever knew about until joining DG, is the Krimson Queen that an elderly friend gave me back in the mid 70's. I have that one divided between two hanging baskets. I am loving that some are so fragrant! I have two baskets of Lacunosa ... one just beginning to bloom again and it smells so good. The other one that is so fragrant that I love is Nummularioides (sp). I have a big basket of DS-70 and love the looks of it but can't say I like the "aroma" from that one! Kinda musty. I haven't noticed fragrance on the Hindu Rope blossoms or the KQ.
Well, I'm rambling ... Thanks again for the help!
Lin
Lin...H. imperialis LOVES warmth and loves to climb....
As I mentioned, both the australis ssp. have flowers so similar there is no need to site differences.
Nice plants!!!
Thank's ... so I will just label them as Australis ssp. I will definitely put Imperialis on a trellis!
I got one of the Australis from Gessiegail and also the Imperialis. She also sent me a cutting of kerrii (green one) and the variegated kerrii, plus that cute little carnosa hollianna She shops at a nursery close to where she lives in Texas and they have hoyas but she said they don't label them. They are all really healthy plants, so I hope I can keep them that way! My other hoya's seem to be doing well so I'm hoping these will as well.
Thanks again!
