Since I've joined DG, I have a whole new outlook on the plant world. Plants that I considered weeds before are suddenly finding homes in my beds and my yard. I wanted to show some pics of some of my beautiful weeds and I hope y'all will do the same.
This is a picture of a Texas Vervain that I transplanted into my flower bed this spring. It's odd how all the old growth has turned red and the new growth is waiting to shoot upward in the spring.
WEEDS!
T.J. the third plant is really pretty, I think it is a type of primrose Oenothera, but not sure.
Broncbuster I used to do things like that, but have learned to be careful... I always try to make sure they will not be invasive!
Most of my plants are weeds, in the sense of being natives. And it's amazing to me how many plants have "weed" in their names. Milkweed, for example, but I have many that have the "weed" names. This was a good years for weed-like species. All kinds of things came up, some of them I hadn't seen in a while.
I read this thread and must say I think of all my weeds as wildflowers... LOL
I have tried to transplant mullien but it did not make it but I do encourage the weeds at my house.
I went to my journal to list some and was surprised to see how long the list was. If interested, I will post the link to my "weeds of east Texas" page http://davesgarden.com/community/journals/vbc/podster/43905/
I grew a lot of weeds - but to the looks of those who lived around me but I loved to get out there are give them a shot and they are mostly stunning in the garden. .. The onyl two weeds to me are Bermuda Grass and Johnson Grass.
Well, Mitch, in that case I've got a whole yard FULL of weeds.
I hear you!
