Pink Charm

This is new cultivar by Monika Gottschalk. This seedling was grown in the U.S. with Shirley Morr being the seedling parent. The cross on this brug is Rosa Zauber x Ecuador Rose.
This brug is top contender for my favorite brug of 2007. Bloomed all summer long when it was so hot I could barely keep leaves on my other brugs. No bugs to speak of. The blooms are med-large sized and a nice dark pink. Nice tendrils that have a tendency to curl up like pig tails. Very fragrant. On the powdery side. She has numerous flushes every 4-5 weeks or so but is frequently throwing out single blooms in between these periods. With the double genes in her background, (Rosa Zauber is a Rothkirch x Charleston cross) I would like to breed back into that line and try to get some nice doubles out of her in the future.

Wow!!! I love the dark color with the white center in the first photo.. that is so beautiful. That fat corolla is so Ecuador.. LOL Blooming in the heat sure is a real winner Gary! On my monitor it seems to have a hint of a lavender.. did you ever do anything with your venture to go that way with brugs?

Wow, such a beautiful brug, the color is out of this world and pink is not a favorite color of mine. But I like this one.

Another one for my want list, Hmmm maybe the year 2010 if she's out by then.

So beautiful!!!! Oh yes this will be one for my wish list also.

ZZ's there isn't any lavender in there but she is an unusual shade of pink. The color reminds me of fruit punch Kool-aid.

As far as the lavender project many people just planted their seeds so we won't know for some time (until we get blooms) what direction we still need to go.

We can always use a few more Monika Brugs in the gene pool. I have a few of those lavender project seedlings. They are some of the very few seedlings I plan to grow this next year. I just want to grow them out for Brenda, she is such a nice person.

PS, Gary I have not shiped you plant yet but it is in good hands.

Great pictures, Gary. I also enjoyed this plant a lot the last two summers. I love her heat tolerance, color, and especially the fact that bugs don't mess with her. I wish she would send up basals, tho. LOL! It's great to know that she handles your heat down there too. Thanks for giving her a try.

That dark pink color and the abrupt color change makes it seem as if the bloom has been dipped in a glaze. Gorgeous!!!

She is such a sleek vibrant pink she almost looks plastic! Awesome. Heat Tolerance is always a plus.

Bug free...heat tolerant...exudes heavy fragrance...one to wish for. Wouldn't you say she's a "sexy" one??

Yeah, go visit her web site. It'll know your socks off! Be warned, it could make one's obsession with Brugs worse to look and day dream about having some that are on the web site.

Gary, I know you made a comment before about wishing the color went all the way up the corolla, but I really like it as is. There are so many really nice pinks out there now - that all look darn near identical - that I have started shying away from them. This is one I wouldn't mind having.

It would be very interesting (and very beautiful, IMO) to have one colored like this with a long corolla tube and a narrow face (kind of sanguinea or flava looking) - but with those tendrils, of course! ;^)

Oh, to see a lovely brug like that right now. Better yet to smell it. Winter storm warning on the way here. Brug season is a long way off. :(

Gary's pictures are wonderful. I believe climate may have some bearing on how this one looks. Here are pictures of the mother plant. I'm a point and shoot picture taker, so nothing ever looks professional.

And one more to show her final color in Iowa. You can see that she can swing from pink to coral for me. For the most part, she gets a dark pink like Gary's pictures show.

Between Gary and Christa's pictures I start day dreaming of moving to Florida every winter. Their climate is just perfect for Brugs in the winter.

I know what you mean. I lived by Houston for several years, and didn't know brugs existed then! If I'd only known then.......LOL

oh... KIM... you can't take me too literally.. I was thinking of an aroma pumping bloom... but with nano technology... the implanting of medical machines ... tiny things to clean/scour the inside of a blood vessel perhaps.. maybe a little fan for the blooms is a possibility...come on you know about fans right.. you're putting me on.. just maybe not for the blooms.. blades spinning around and all...
