Hello-
I have what I feel is an odd question and I hope this is the correct forum. I have two pet rabbits, kept indoors, whom I collect droppings from for my rose and vegetable gardens. During the spring and summer I apply the manure directly to the garden beds or throw them in the compost heap. I plan this winter to continue to add the droppings daily to the compost pile. I have, however, got a request from a few friends for bags of droppings for their spring planting. Collecting the droppings is no problem, but how to store it? I am not so much worried about smell as I am about it all growing moldy during the winter months. Paper, plastic, cardboard, cloth? I'd appreciate any suggestions.
Storing manure?
I keep rabbits, too. I haven't stored a lot of poop because I mainly feed it to my worm bins (the worms love it and it makes the castings even better). But when I have stored it, the key is- the drier, the better. Lay it out for a few weeks- I did mine on an old sheet on wire shelving- and storing it in any sort of bag should not be a problem.
Here's an idea- what about drying it out in the oven, at a very low temperature?
Ohhh, I like that idea. Thank you!
I guess I better look into some dedicated cookie sheets! I like the idea of air-dying too but I fear my two cats would have way to much fun playing with it all. Either that or they would sleep on it...
