Chicken feed recipes?

Donalds, SC(Zone 7b)

I'm looking for a good recipe for laying mash. Here's the only one I found on a google search.

25# wheat meal
25# corn meal
25# other grains (oats, barley, rye)
25# fish meal or soybean meal
7 # dried milk (I assume like for feeding calves from a bottle, not Carnation)
5 # ground sea shells
1.5 # salt
granite grit or crushed lime

Tractor Supply Company (TSC) has a good egg mash. 16% protein & here it is under $11 for a 50 lb bag.
I was a feed maker years ago & it is very hard to get feed mixed right without a good mixing machine. Even when we made 2 tons at a time, it was hard to get it to test for the right protein every time.
I would highly recommend buying a ready mixed feed.

If there is no TSC near you, go to a local co-op feed store.

Go to the library & look for a book on animal feeding. There is one that gives protein % for all kinds of grains & things.
I don't know about bugs or worms, I think that is called dessert! LOL!

Have a Great Day!

I bet i could google it :)
thanks Bernie

The link T-Faye gave above has all that info you need, protein contents, ratios of what ingredient to another, supplements (if needed), etc.

As for ready-mixed feed, 'your mileage may vary' (so to speak). I buy ours from Southern States (about $10/50 pounds for laying mash and/or laying pellets) (the pellets are less wasteful, by the way). However, sometimes when caught for time I end up buying another brand of feed from another store and boy-howdy can I tell a difference in the two. (Southern States comes out the winner each time.)
