Thanks for sharing, Linda!! I was unaware that there was a problem. I know Monarchs haven't been migrating here in Perris CA for a couple of years. I understood that they migrated to San Diego one or two years ago but I don't remember seeing them then even though I am not all that far from San Diego. I am glad that they stopped the illegal logging.

They haven't stopped it entirely. Some loggers and sawmills are still going and others will spring up later. Mexico hasn't ever put a lot of resources into stopping the destruction of habitat. But at least they're trying now. And we shouldn't just blame Mexico for the problems with Monarchs. Our government also hasn't made a priority of preventing damage to them. And the majority of people in the U.S. just don't care much. Habitat loss, GMO and Roundup-ready crops, overuse of pesticides and herbicides, etc. All are killing butterflies here in the U.S.
