Local place to buy large pecan trees (near Denton)

Argyle, TX(Zone 7b)

I was hoping to find a few places to look at pecan trees. I would like to find a mature Mohawk if possible or other large type that does well in the Denton area. I was told by the people at Texas Pecan Nursery that Mahan does not do well at filling out around here. Thanks in advance, Mike

You might try Designs in Nature the tree place, here is the link.

I think Mohawk is an excellent pecan, my neighbor has one and it is great.
A large tree will be difficult to transplant and very expensive, I have heard that starting with a small tree is better because it takes the big tree a long time to recover, and the smaller tree will get larger faster.
In any event, I hope you find what you need.
Josephine.

Thanks for the info Josephine. I am hoping to plant 2 large ones and a couple of small ones. I have a backhoe so planting will not be a problem, but as you say, recovering could be a problem. Texas Pecan Nursery sales 7" graphs in the spring and I would like to graph some. Thanks for the link, Mike

Mike, scroll down this link to the Texas map with county outlines for a list of pecan varieties for each of the 4 Texas regions listed to see which varieties are best for your area.

Hey, lady, don't want to hijack the thread. But, how do you overwinter your clock vine? The PF says it's only hardy in zone 9. So I brought mine inside, but it doesn't like it in here at all.

I don't know mine, is inside and unhappy. too. One I had before, died back on top, and came back from the roots...surprised me....I think I am going to put mine back outside in one of my little greenhouses . I have the ones that have a zippered cover..they are cold in there but they survive (or they did last year) I had a Hot Lips Salvia, that actually grew in one of those!

Well, I think I will do that too then. This little guy is sure not going to make it in my dining room all winter, so guess I might as well risk it. Thanks for the tip!
