Hey Kathy - do you have any ponds in your yard?

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

They're gone now, but I had one at the top of the property in the grass and one down lower up against the house. Eeek!!

How 'bout you?

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

No - 'tis the beauty of living on a hill. We did clear the neighbour's drain, though, and stopped the mini-river that was flowing so nicely into & across our property!
Has it all drained away -- that which collected by the house?
At least you have knowledge of potential future problems with water pooling.
If it's not too close to the house, there might be some good plants that would love that water and help with the uptake.

The little puddle up at the top was unusual, but it didn't last long.

And I knew about the one up next to the house. It only happens when we have lots of rain in a short period. I think this is the third time since I've lived here. It usually only lasts a day or two and then drains completely. I've put a ninebark there, and we'll see how it does long term. There appears to have been a drain around that spot in the past, but the buried pipe isn't connected to the pipe that goes under the driveway and continues downhill. I discovered it sticking out of the ground when I was putting in the bed.

And the drainpipe that goes under the driveway is plugged with soil, I think. I haven't yet figure out what to do there.

Fortunately, the footing drains for the house seems to keep the crawl space dry, but I'd love to get a french drain put in so that the water completely bypasseses this part of the yard . . .

Anyway, it's dry and frosty here today with sunshine, so I'm grateful!! One of my todos this weekend is writing down my emergency evacuation plan. Not a simple task with all these furkids.
