I hope your day is just as special as you are.
Happy, happy birthday!!
Happy Birthday, Mittsy!
Happy Birthday!
Thanks for your good wishes.

Thank you for the beautiful birthday JI photo. My daughter signed me up for a membership in the AIS through Phoenix Flower Farm and a gift certificate to buy some new plants next June. How wonderful to have something to look forward to.

What a fantastic birthday gift! Enjoy - I'm sure you will.
Happy birthday and have a great day Mittsy.
I went to my first AIS meeting two weeks ago. Now that you've joined maybe I will see you there when the weather gets better.
Very cool! Will you be having banana cream pie anytime soon??? You are across the state from me. Humid there???
The weather has been just beautiful, not humid at all. Last week we had red tide, but this week has been good.
Today was humid here and even warmer tomorrow (85). I'm waiting for another "cold wave".....LOL I loved it when we had 40 degrees in the mornings.....
mittsy - It sounds like you are in Florida and not Cicero. You and Louise can keep each other company!! Eleanor
Yes we are snowbirds, the arthritis does much better in the warmth, and it gives us a chance to see our granddaughters in Vero Beach.

Jan:
Those blooms are gorgeous!
Lovely blooms, Jan!
Mittsy - is "Snowbird" a bad word where you are??? It definitely is here!!
Yes, but because we are here for 7 months at a time those thoughtless people that are so vocal in their complaints often forget that I'm a snowbird so I often have to remind them that although we pay for services and taxes we are not allowed to vote and I don't appreciate their derogatory comments. We volunteer for many organizations while we are here.
Mittsy
If you are here for 7 months, why can't you vote here?
Because we have a home ( my 88 year old mother lives there, too. She won't leave her doctors. ) in NY and have the star program.
I understand. It can be quite frustrating.
That seems a bit unfair. You can pay all the taxes, but you can't vote? And folks treat you like an outsider. How rude!
Yes, Candyce, it IS rude. The snowbirds drop a lot of money and use very little services, and get blamed for everything bad. Tsk Tsk!
Shame on the local populous!
Is there any name the Floridians get stuck with when they come up north for the summer? There should be!
Yes, Pirl, in NH we are called Flatlanders. In either direction, we are outsiders. Sniff.
That's not nice! I meant the people who live in Florida 10 or 11 months a year, not you! We need a name for them - "escapees"?
How about "Smart"! It gets dreadfully hot down here for a few months in the summer!! LOL
Just my feelings here but snowbird sounds derogatory where I'd think they should be grateful for the increase in business, home ownership, taxes, etc. Yes, smart would fit both ways so maybe "smartbirds" fits in both cases.
I like that a lot better. When you think about it, the birds we have in the NE are pretty smart when they start winging their way south......especially since many of them wouldn't survive otherwise. We just try to hitch a ride with them when they decide it's time to go! Then when they get smart in the spring and return, we comply as well.. LOL
SMARTBIRDS, I like that!
Florida is notorious for low wages but I found a few weeding jobs that pay pretty well, 3 hours for $45. I didn't want a real part time job, but I have enough work that I can pick and choose the ones I want to do and word of mouth keeps me in clients. I love to garden and condo living doesn't give you much space for it, so weeding, planting, and mulching makes for a great job. I have a hard time throwing away any good (weed) plants, so have plenty to take cuttings from or pot up and give away. It's a FUN job.

Why do people need labels anyway? I know it will not change but our society has always labeled people and it's like putting them in a certain class. People are labeled according to race, color, religion, where they live - how about just using their names? Eleanor
Very good question, Eleanor! I like your approach better!
Excellent, Eleanor
After all, aren't we all who we THINK we are?
