Lovely!
This is a Clematis that I'm not familiar with since it is not available in the U.S. Can you tell us more about it please?
Jeanne, marieortiz and Shirley,
Thank you for your worm message!
This Clematis is Japanese garden variety so might not be available in the U.S.
"Hie" is mutant of C. calycina and the purple spots of flower is depper than C. calycina.
C. calycina is a native of Minorca, and is not quite so hardy (6a).
Oh Kewl..it would love my Zone 8B!!..Jeanne
This is a very special Clematis. You are very lucky to have it growing in your garden.
Love that one too...
I really wished you would contact Richard at COTW aka Clematis on the web and send him pics to add to his data base..I don't see either one of those on the site...do you by any chance save and share seeds?...They are truly magnificent and special!!..Luck you!!..Jeanne
Here is Richard's email address: richard@thenook.karoo.co.uk

Jeanne,
Thank you for your referral to wonderful Clematis site. I could find both of them in the site but I enjoyed to see many beautiful flowers.
I can let you know when I save the seeds if you want.
I couldn't find clematis "Anshunensis" on it..does it have another name..I would adore some seeds if you do end up with some to spare...Hugzzzz...Jeanne
Jeann,
I also couldn't find Anshunensis in the list but could call up it from the retrieval.
I'll mail you when I gather the seeds. I hope they can produce seed well....!
Please keep posting pictures goldenfish. I love your clematis!!
Wow..thanks Goldenfish..Here's hoping yours produces tons of seeds!!..In my warmer zone I have some that spit out blooms here and there especially if it remains mild but I don't have any that are considered winter clematis like yours..I just love the Clematis from Japan..Japanese breeders produce some of the most beautiful clematis I've ever seen..I am especially just totally in love with "Beni-no-Kagayaki" by Toyohiko Iwai and can't wait till the day I can have it in my gardens ..what a joyful day that will be....Thanks again..Jeanne
ps..would you do me a favor and translate what "Beni-no-Kagayaki" means in English??..
I was just thrilled to acquire Clematis "Hoshi-no-flameco" last fall to add to my collection..Minoru Hoshino is a genius!!..Can't wait to see it bloom this year!!
Japanese native clematis (C.patens) is important parent of many hybrid. So Japanese breeders produce many beautiful clematis. I hope the day will come when Japanese varieties color your garden.
"Beni-no-Kagayaki" means sanguine sparkle :)
