Ordering Blues

Precipice Valley, BC(Zone 2a)

Thompson and Morgan have sent me into depression. Their catalogue incredibly arrived in early November and with our dollar in such good shape, I took a good look at it. (In past years I've just been using it for reference.) Since I needed some seeds that had to be started in January, and my spirits were dropping as the first snow was falling, I virtuously sat down and made my seed order. We picked up the mail yesterday and my order was there. That has to be a record.

But now what???? Some other catalogues arrived also, but I've DONE my order. No more scheming, dreaming, planning. What a bummer! I should probably hide the other catalogues or I'll get sucked into ordering just a packet or two, and then the shipping gets silly.

What on earth will I do on January 1st, my traditional day for poring through the catalogues?

Oh, woe is me. Maybe I'll mount all the packets in a (very large) frame and hang it in front of my desk. Otherwise I'll wear them out sorting through them each day!

Being organized isn't all it's made out to be.

I hear you! I've been sitting on my hands to keep from ordering too soon since I'll have a relatively small order this year for a change. I'd hate to miss out on something new because I'd already ordered.

Chilko,

Did you have pay duty on your order from T&M? Was the shipping cost reasonable?

On january 1st you can plant some of your seeds instead of worrying whether they will get there in time. How is winter in your part of the world - it seems to have arrived everywhere in Canada over the weekend.

Joanne--I remember that the TM shipping was very reasonable but I've tossed the box already. It's shipped from Canada now, which makes life easier. No customs or duty to fuss about.

I'll probably start a Tumbler tomato on January 1st. It grows quite happily in my window in a hanging basket.
I put some Euphorbia in the fridge to chill for 10 days on November 15 and it's disappeared! I know my fridge needs cleaning out, but that's ridiculous.

Winter here? Hah! Arrived about Nov 3 with a 5" snowfall. That never left, and we got more...by November 15th, still in denial, we discovered we were caught in the valley with both vehicles. Had to have our 15 km driveway graded ($840--ouch!) or we would have been without a highway vehicle until next May. At the moment we have about 18" here in the valley, and nearly 3' on the road out to the highway. Yes, winter is here.

Hi Rosemary. How's it going on the ordering? I got an email from Halifax Seeds that shipping is free till the end of December again this year. I order few seeds and some seed starting supplies from them usually, they seem to have the best prices on some of that stuff anyway.

Got some snow here too now. So cold for December. Have a Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to you all.

I started looking into Halifax Seeds but then my fussing about seeds has been replaced by a sudden decision to go to Cuba for a week...an all inclusive, which we've never done before. My niece came up with the deal and it was too good to miss! Major problems with leaving the house, resolved expensively, but still worrying about all my pels in 2" pots, drying out.

Looking forward to seeing gardens full of coleus!

have a great time!
