We Are Having Babies

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

This one is ready at any moment and three more (at least) by the am. It'll be a rough night.

A comparison to a necklace I found that is called 'Almost Born'. I liked it so much that I contacted the artist and had her make matching ear rings (not chrysalis but a similar pattern). She also does a jade chrysalis necklace which is absolutely beautiful. She has stopped making the one I have...too time consuming but, isn't it pretty?

Very nice work. It does look like it will be ready to fly in the am!

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks, Sheila! Still waiting. I just want a picture so I may be up all night. The things we do!

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

oh congrats Kristi. The necklace it beautiful

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Kristi, hope you didn't miss it. I didn't see your last post until this morning, but thought I would tell you, they usually don't eclose until after daylight or later. Their wings need to dry so they need the warmth I guess. I have taken a couple to work before and put them on my desk, and still missed the actual act! It is so quick! It takes a long time for them to unfurl and pump out their wings though. They will not feed or fly for several hours while they are drying.
Best of luck, hope you get your pic!!

Kristi, what a pretty chrysalis and necklace!

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

You are right, Sheila! They're still out there. I finally gave up about 1:00 am.....just couldn't keep the blinks open any longer. I'm still running out there every 5 minutes. LOL.

Any babies yet? :^) post some pics.

Every chrysallis I've ever had has opened up in the first two hours of daylight.
I suspect that the 'baby' slept good last night, unlike the 'parent'. :^)

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Here's the first baby. I missed it coming out but it happened about 30 minutes ago.

Welcome to the world pretty butterfly.
Hopefully, we'll see you this summer.

Thanks for sharing.

She's a beauty!!!

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

I have two more already!

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

You will be very busy over the next week. I remember all the "ornaments" you had on that tree! LOL! Have fun and keep the pictures coming!

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Those ornaments were cool, huh?

Well, one of those ornament decided to make itself somewhere in my kitchen and when I got home today, there was a butterfly on my counter! Let her crawl on my finger and he's crawled all over me for the last hour or so. The picture is really dark because she was on my right arm and I'm right handed. Ever try to take a picture with one arm, and the wrong one at that? I was all discombobulated.

I made some nectar and put a dab on my arm and she was hungry! She's in my garage with the others. Too cold tonight and she's not ready to fly.

Ahhh, how sweet! That's a good pic considering you took it left handed!

Did you let any go today?

This summer a cat must have crawled off the mw plant I bought and had in the back of the car. One day DH comes in the house and calmly says, "There's a monarch flying around in the car". Nothing really surprises him anymore LOL

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Released 3 this morning and came home to 3 more!

Aren't you glad ya'll noticed the monarch then instead of when you were driving. 'Ahhhh!'

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

Heehee, he was driving and saw her in the rear view mirror......inside.

Wow, this weekend is supposed to be in the mid 70's so that will be perfect for them.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

She's putting on a show!

Ooooh how lovely, thanks Kristi for let's in on the pics. I'm longing for spring so I can see these beauties again in the garden.
Kim

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Thank you, Kim! I'll send them your way.

Actually, I've been worried mindless about them since the cold spell has hit. We got to freezing last night but I was able to move them all in the garage....even the ones that released yesterday. They played 'statue' until I moved them into the sunshine this morning. Within an hour, the newly released flew on their happy way. Good girls and boys.

Isn't this a boy???? Now that I look at it closer, he's got that spot. He knew I was looking for love! LOL. But, am I wrong? I'm certainly no expert.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

They're so adorable, I've 3 G.F. chrysalea yet to eclose, our temp. dips down to the low 30'ish last night, but we're going to be warmer in the 44-60 the remainder of the weeks, I hope these babies are going to be okay. I rather they just hibernate and wait 'til spring.

That last one on the orange is definately a boy Kristi. Very pretty pictures of your new babies. You did a great job. I thought you might have a stray chrysalis somewhere when I noticed you didn't have them in a cage. They drop and crawl off sometimes when they get ready to pupate. Could have been it was under a chair or somewhere. You will find it later and smile....remembering your early Christmas ornaments.

Sugar Land, TX(Zone 9a)

Funny, I do have a BF cage to put them in but them in but the milkweed got way too big in between their spurt. And what a spurt it was. DH built a fine cage......but not big enough for the migration we get here. I need a room! No kidding. I cut 3' stalks with the cats on them and put them in a vase in my kitchen.

Realistically......the plants have done it this year. I've had an overload of sulphurs, fritillaries, skippers, gray streaks.....if you plant it, they will come. And boy did they. I've been really lucky!

I have seeds out the wazoo to share. (Especially cassias)...don't be shy. I'm here to share.
