thank you--it looks like a pretty plant!
Aloha, and welcome!
Here on Maui these are common bushes. We have soil on the slightly acidic side and very well drained because of all the lava rock. I have seen these plants growing in both semi sun and in full sun. The full sun ones seem to bloom more. Blooms are on new growth and the bushes are constantly shaped during the year, which is perhaps why they always seem to be in bloom. Never seem to be bothered by insects either. Do you have the Maui pink, or the Maui yellow?
Good luck - it's a very nice plant.

the pink--thanks for the imput--i know i have to bring it in over the winter so will have it in a pot--might not grow as big as the ones you see---
Hi Planolinda,
I keep mine in container and use 'acidic food'. I bring it inside only if it gets to be freezing temps.
Hi Linda! I just saw this post...so please forgive a late response. I have the pink...and I love it! Just give it lots of water and an occasional dose of plant food and it will be fine. I give it some coffee grounds once in a while as well. I live in the tropics, so can't tell you about the cold hardiness, but just from what I have seen in different areas I would say that lovetropics is right...it should be fine unless you have several days of freezing temps.
Post a pic if you get a chance!
thank you and i love the pretty picture!
Linda;
I've two of these, one is the regular shrub, and another is its compact dwarf variety. Both however are orange. In my zone, I overwinter them indoor, they went on blooming at present. Love those blooms they attract butterflies gallores.

p.s. Likes Bhm has mentioned, they bloomed best in full sun for me. Pot culture, and they did just as well. :-)
