Hardy Cyclamen Question

Lowell, MA(Zone 6a)

hello i am new to the bulbs forum as well as to gardening. And i wonder if someone can help me.
Can i plant these cyclamen bulbs in a pot in the basement for the winter?
I read they will freeze out in soil, but i dont want them to rot in a bag before spring comes.
I am very confused. One of them feels kind of soft already.

Thanks in advance ~Soris

Are you thinking hardy cyclamen can not be planted in the ground? Or are you saying they can't be left in a pot overwinter outside? If they are hardy they can be planted in the ground and are very easy to grow. I can't answer the pot in the basement though having only grown them outside.
I don't know your zone, most seem to be listed as hardy to zone 5. Which variety are they?

I don't see why they wouldn't survive in a pot in your basement, just do not over-water them. Too much water & they will rot.

Squirrels seems to be the hardest part of keeping these alive for me, though once the plant has been in the ground for a few weeks the squirrels don't bother with them as much.

Thank you for responding my question :)
I am going to plant them in the basement, and now that you told me about the squirrels with even more reason, they already ate 60 percent of the bulbs i planted early November.
