I have a hibiscus that I planted about a year ago in my back yard space, well it's not doing so hot. After some reading I realized that it needs more sun to really be happy, so I am considering moving it. Is that something that it would survive or should I just leave it be?
Diging Up?
You can definitely dig it up and transplant it--just try to get as much rootball as possible when you're digging it up. And if it's a tropical hibiscus (which I'm guessing it's not because of your zone) then it'll probably drop a bunch of its leaves as a response to the stress of transplanting. I'm not sure if the hardy hibiscus do that too or if it's just the tropicals.
Before you move it though I'd try to figure out for sure what the problem is--how much sun is it getting now? In a climate like yours with blazing hot summers, I'm sure your hibiscus would be fine (and maybe even happier) with some afternoon shade. So unless you had it where it got almost no sun, I suspect the reason it didn't do well may be something other than the amount of sun.
