CLOSED: Anyone have Acnistus australis?

Independence, LA(Zone 8b)

I'm looking for the blue variety. Cuttings or plants, I'm not too picky. I can trade for them or pay postage.

Denham Springs, LA(Zone 8b)

I found someone who sells this beautiful plant.

oh, Carol you've come to my rescue again ;) As you can see I'm becoming obsessed with getting my hands on this plant. She has alot of nice plants... those passifloras are calling my name too!

Independence, LA(Zone 8b)

No U.S orders are being taken at this time. Oh well, I'll find it somewhere soon enough.

Denham Springs, LA(Zone 8b)

Phooey. I saw Annies Annuals sells it too. But they are out of stock right now. You could email them to see when it might be available. Just an idea. :) Plus they have a better price. Ok. I couldn't resist, I emailed them.

Carol

P.S. Refresh my memory. What did I help you with before? My memory is not so great. Lol.

Could this also known as Lochroma Cyanea? From the pictures they look the same and on one of the google sites it said the name had been changed to Lochroma. If so I have it. Patsy

I saw the other name as "Iochroma australis". But if your plant looks like this, they could be the same.

Patsy, it is not the same thing, but very similar. Acnistus australis is a mini angel's trumpet and grows into a bush. It is a relative of brug's. Thanks for helping though.

Ladysaltfire, you helped me find out info for this when I asked about growing it here in our area (mid-south forum). I saw auntie anne's too, when I first discovered this plant. It doesn't seem to be a mass marketed plant.

I'm going to ask Clegg's this weekend to check if they can order it for me. That way the price will be lower (than getting it shipped by itself). Were you wanting one too? Btw, I will be calling you tonight to get your muscadine seeds to you this weekend. I will be in your area tomorrow.

Does anyone know of a mail order place I can order Iochroma australis from. I checked Annies and TopTropicals and neither seem to have it.

Independence, LA(Zone 8b)

LOL! Did I start something? There is a an ebay seller that has it but is not selling it right now. Check out www.strangewonderfulthings.com He has lots of beautiful rare plants.

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

I have grown this one in years past, and the blooms on mine were VERY TINY - almost insignificant. I would choose to use the space for another more showy plant than this one.

Pie,

I just got a message from Annie's Annuals. They said if you really want this plant, you must put it on your wish list and they will notify you when it becomes available. They order so few of these, they sell out rather quickly.

ok, will do. Thanks for looking into for me.

You're welcome. :)

Patsy your plant is Iochroma (instead of Lochroma) Cyanea. It is in the same genus as Acnistus australis, but a different species.
Pieohmy Acnistus australis is actually no longer a valid name. It has been renamed Iochroma australis. You can get it from Kartuz for a very reasonable price:

Tom,

The colors are so vivid. I fell in love with both the blue and the red (Iochroma fuchsioides). Thank you for sharing. I am still drooling over their site, trying not to buy too much. Lol.

Thanks for the correction. Maybe that's why I have had so much trouble finding it. Very good price for it too. It will finally be mine :)
