then I can just stick them in the dirt and let them do there thing or should I soak then frist

I read to soak them, that's what I did.

You have to soak brugmansia seeds and peel off the outer coating but I've never soaked any of my datura seeds. In fact, if you leave some on the plant at the end of the season, they should reseed in the garden for you.

thanks all,now I will try planting a few to see how they do

The seeds I ordered came with instructions to soak for a few hours. When they reseed themselves, they get a soaking sooner or later from Mother Nature.

Not that I know what I'm talking about. I seeded 6 or 7 and only one has germinated so far.

While we're talking datura seeds, how can you tell when the seed pod is almost ready? I read here that they'll split when they're still green and I'd like to know when I should net the thing.

I take the seed pods off my Daturas when they first start to split.Peel the outer covering off and let them finish drying in the house.
I soak my seed before planting but then I soak most everything before it is planted.
BTW....if anyone needs seed of Double Purple Datura I will send for a SASE.

Thanks for the info, gone2seed. Double purples is what I've got so I'll let someone else snap up your seeds. Hoping to catch the seeds on my white one.

Irish, I'm open to the idea. Please jog my memory if I forget. Seeing as these are my first daturas, I have no idea how long till they're ready. I'm not sure which species they are, perhaps inoxia. The flowers are a bit different from the pictures I've seen, but so far it's the closest. Blooms about 4" long and just as wide with little white tendrils at the end of each of the five ribs. Large leaves (up to 10") with wavy edges. Maybe some datura expert can identify.

Irish: If you want datura innoxia seeds, email me.

i need pictures of moon flowers if you have any please e-mail them to me my e-mail is whazzup47165@hotmail.com

Judy, check the Brug and Datura Contest forum.

Moonflowers also refers to a white, night-blooming morning glory. In that case do a search of this site (in the right hand margin) and check out any results in the photo forum.

Hi everyone,
I just have to put in my two-cents worth. Last winter, I soaked, nicked, sanded, and begged my little moonflower seeds to germinate. Then I started whining to anyone who would listen (and tell me how to get those seeds to do their thing). Then, someone (I think it was soneone from DG and I wish I had saved the email) told me to try soaking the seeds in peroxide for a couple of hours. Well, I'm a "more is better kind of gal" so I soaked those those babies overnight! The germination was so good I took about 40 little babies to work to share!
Hope it works for you as well as it did for me!
