Can anyone ID please?
who am i?
I would guess Neogegelia carolinae 'tricolor' or one of its many forms and hybrids. Judging from the conformation (elongated narrow leaves) it wants more light. The variegation on these is usually strong/persistent, but it appears the pup on the bottom has lost it. It sometimes happens.
Dave.
it is losing it's pinkish stripes. would putting it under a plant light help? it is to cold to set outside
The stripes (the variegation) is a genetic mutation that is not generally affected by the environment. If you mean the pinkish tint on the white variegation, yes, more light means more pink.
thanks, i picked it up in august at a flea market $5.00
They are certainly large enough to divide if you prefer single plants. Some like clumps, it's up to you. With more light you will also see the new leaves become wider and stouter. Of course with Winter coming, short days, and less intensity, you might not see much change until Spring.
Dave, thanks for the info. it is appreciated
