I have quite a few things which are still blooming, I don't know what to do. Blushing Bride Hydr., Marygolds, Lisianthus, Foxgloves. It is getting colder now should I trim and cover for the winter or not?
How to winterize in GA
I just let everything die off that's going to die off and wait for the spring to prune. Unless it's an annual or just looks terrible. My hardy hibiscus look terrible when they die back so I cut them off at the ground and hope it doesn't get warm enough for them to start growing again.
That's kind of what I was thinking, besides I'm afraid that when frost does hit, just when you have pruned them, they can suffer quite a bit or die even. So I'm not taking chances, I'll let nature do whatever is supposed to happen and hope that in Spring they'll all come back.
Thanks.
Marigolds should reseed (if they aren't sterile). I've never had luck with lisianthus but I would think they are tender perennials that are treated as annuals. Foxgloves are hardy biennials so they do fine and bloom the second year setting hundreds of seed.
Hydrangeas are all fairly hardy but it is important to know which type blooms on old wood and which blooms on new wood if you intend on pruning them.
Ya if you don't know much about your hydranga go ask on that board to see when to prune them or whether they bloom on new or old wood. They can be tricky and you don't want to chop off next years blooms.
